Wait, It's giving Tuesday?

What a coincidence because you've been wondering how you can support the volunteers keeping MoPac Singletrack a great place to exercise, chill, find nature, find adventure...you get the idea. We've got some low cost items you can buy to help protect our volunteers as they maintain the trails. Check out the amazon link below for more info.

We also have a need for a small shipping container to house our larger equipment. If you have a hookup for something like that, let us know.

In this holiday season, please don't forget your trusty trail stewards who work year round to keep our trails enjoyable and safe. We have several relatively low cost needs you could purchase for us to help equip our trail volunteers. If you purchase these from our wish list on amazon, they will ship to the home of one of our stewards, who will distribute them to the group. You should also be able to see how many have been purchased and how many are still needed on this list. Thanks for considering supporting our efforts!

Reposting from trail steward Todd Posson:

PSA of the day. I'm going to post this in a couple different groups.

This week is going to suck for hiking, trail running and mountain biking. The weather is awesome (mid-50's), but the trail conditions are going to be abhorrent.

Due to the awesome, desperately needed (for my mental health at least) warm temps, the tread surface of all natural-surface (i.e. dirt, singletrack) trails is going to be thawing and melting the remnants of the recent 2-4" of snow and previous 6"+ of snow.
The main issue is that below the upper 05.-1" at the surface which is completely thawed is a relatively deep frozen section because we had sustained temperatures well below freezing. We also had a fair amount of moisture in the soils from the early January snow, so the sub-zero temps froze all that moisture to probably 18-24" down. The moisture from the recent 2-4" snow has melted, but it has nowhere to go b/c the ground below it is frozen, so it cannot infiltrate and "go away". The good news is that highs near 60 and lows that may not go below freezing means that we might actually get a full thaw by the end of the week.

This means that while temps are near perfect, all dirt-surface trails are going to be a nasty, sloppy mess all week (most likely). While we all want to get out and get some fresh air and exercise, the most responsible thing to do would be to do that on paved trails this week. This isn't even about "UTC trails". Even those trail in parks not maintained by UTC should be avoided this week to avoid damaging them.

We can't wait to hit the trails again either but it's going to be a while yet - please be patient!

We had our main six trail stewards out trimming today. We got about 2/3 of everything trimmed. Who wants to join us next time when we knock out the rest?

You've been looking for opportunities to volunteer and we have your opportunity. We are looking for 3-4 folks to join us for a trimming party at 730 AM this coming Sunday. Please PM this page if you can make it. We plan on trimming until at least noon. So we don't have any equipment laying around not secured, we need people who can commit to being there the whole time. Thank you for getting involved! Many hands make light work!

THANK YOU!! After the post talking about how we could use some new stuff to aid in maintaining the trails some trail users came through big time. Thank you to the following people: Michael Diederich and A. Carson who each bought us a chainsaw carry bag! Thank you to Christy Swearingen who bought us a chainsaw chain, and chain sharpening kit, and thank you to David Heller who bought us a pair of work gloves and a chainsaw chain!!! We can't tell you how much we appreciate your generosity and support of our efforts out at the trails!

Cleared out a tree that fell in the ravine where all of the trails come together this morning. We put out a plea this winter for some financial support and didn't get much response. Trail maintenance is picking up with riding season. To give you an example of what we need, see the photos below showing the kids school backpack we have cut out to carry a chainsaw. It is full of holes, doesn't hold all of our saw tools, and has zip ties for zipper pulls. It is beyond its useful life. For $60 you could buy us a ready-made chainsaw carry bag much better suited to helping us maintain the trails. Do me a favor, if you love riding or running or hiking on these trails, invest in our trail stewards and check out our amazon wish list and pick something up for us. We would definitely appreciate it!

One more plea for your support of the trail builders/maintainers. Nov 28 is Giving Tuesday. A day to support those in your community whose actions make it a better place. We need several items to better equip our trail stewards as they build and maintain trail at MoPac SingleTrack. If you are able to purchase something off the list, we'd greatly appreciate the support. Thank you! https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/JFWUWQEYNNKV?ref_=wl_share&fbclid=IwAR0r10roy2ni_40B5pudFCdQFGlx3rlafeftVNjJy6veL2VIdBj8IMFDFAw

Last weekend we posted an amazon wish list of items our volunteer trail stewards could use to help maintain the trails. This morning we received our first donation from the list. Some gloves and chainsaw wedges! Thank you Les...we are very grateful!!! We still have several items on the list we still need. (amazon link below)

Also last weekend we cleared out several large trees that had fallen, most on Sasquatch Crossing. (some photos attached) While riding out there later that day I counted 65 fallen trees cut out of a 0.75 mile stretch over the last 7 years. If you extrapolate those numbers to the whole trail system that is around 600 fallen trees removed from the trails in the last 7 years. That is a significant amount of time our volunteers have spent keeping the trails passable. As you gear up for holiday shopping, consider getting us something off our amazon list linked below. Doing so is an investment in the MoPac SingleTrack trails. Thank you!

As you begin your holiday shopping consider purchasing an item or two from our amazon wish list. Doing so will keep our trail stewards well equipped and protected while they maintain and expand the trails we all enjoy! We've got lots of items listed, starting as low as $13-$14 and up. Thanks for the help!

Want to be on TV riding your mountain bike? Fox4 is going to be filming segments around Pleasant Hill between 8 and 10AM Tuesday 6/27. One of the places they are going to stop to film is MoPac SingleTrack. Respond below if you are interested in meeting up at the trailhead then and we'll try to get something organized. Also, I'm trying to get a more exact time from the city.
