Contra Costa Summer Umpires Association

Contra Costa Summer Umpires Association Contra Costa Summer Umpire Association. Come join the best team of umpires in Northern California. I moved to the area from Eugene, OR. I formed an LLC in 2009.

CCUA [the HS umpiring association] was started back in 1953 or thereabouts. It was formed to service the high school baseball umpiring needs of the schools located in Contra Costa County of Northern Calif.. in 1973 & joined CCUA for the 1974 season. As I already had 2 seasons of Varsity baseball umpiring experience, I went straight to the Varsity level of CCUA. My children began playing in the Wal

nut Creek Little League in 1976 & I was promptly recruited as the UIC for the WCLL where I remained in that position for 23 years as the UIC as well as a team Manager. In 2000, because of the growth of CCUA as well as the increase in Spring & Summer youth baseball leagues, I founded the Contra Costa Summer Umpire Association [CCSUA]. I had the complete support of the membership of the CCUA & quickly recruited many non-members to join CCSUA, CCSUA essentially became the non-interscholastic division of CCUA but under my ownership. Basically, CCSUA was founded to enhance the professionalism & skills of CCUA members as well as members of other neighboring HS umpire associations. It became a vehicle for the members to utilize CCSUA assignments in the off-season to work on improving skills that CCUA members had developed during the HS season. Initially, it was formed for that express purpose but grew so fast & extensively that various youth league programs demanded the more skilled umpires as supplied by CCSUA to fill their umpiring needs. CCSUA eventually covered baseball umpire services needed locally by practically all levels of Little League, Inc., Babe Ruth Leagues, Pony [Bronco & Mustang], all levels of Travel Ball, American Legion, Connie Mack, Summer HS teams & some Wood-Bat College teams. Independent programs & local Baseball Academies became customers as well. However the largest amount of our umpiring services were contracted with the Tri-Valley Mens Senior Baseball League [TVMSBL] which is a national program. Another national Travel tournament customer program is Triple Crown Sports based in Fort Collins,CO. CCSUA covered tournaments for TCS in Northern California, Northern Nevada & down onto the Central California Coast as far south as Ventura County. CCSUA grew from a membership 56 certified high school umpires to over 240 members within a 6-7 year period of time. It continues today as a baseball umpire supply service numbering in excess of 8000 assignments annually.. In addition CCSUA will train youth & volunteer adult umpires as needed for various customers. One can visit the CCSUA website by going to www.ccuaumpires.com & click on the Summer link. CCUA itself has grown to over 90 members primarily due to the growth of HS baseball in the area & is currently the largest & most prestigious umpiring group in the nine Bay Area Counties region. As recruiting of new members is the lifeblood of any such association as needed to replace members who have moved on, retired or graduated to the college & professional ranks, CCSUA is in constant need of new members & can be used as a training ground for moving up to the high school level of baseball umpiring with CCUA & other similar associations. Members use CCSUA assignments to supplement income of their own personal & business careers & enjoy doing so. It builds camaraderie and very long lasting friendships and associations.

Our own Kate Hart who has been active umpire-wise in the Santa Clara area the past 2 seasons has just been notified that she will be the recipient of the prestigious HOT STOVE WOMEN IN BASEBALL AWARD FOR 2016.

Kate has been a long time fixture in the San Ramon Valley area for both Little League, CCUA-High School & CCSUA. Her foray into the Santa Clara/San Jose & south areas over the past few years has been due to career opportunities for which she re-located to Salinas. However, she just announced that her career work will allow her to re-join CCUA come 2017 which also means she'll be increasing her umpiring for CCSUA.

Kate has been a Little League UIC, and district umpire instructor & trainer as well as umpiring baseball at the college level. We are very happy about her returning to CCUA & CCSUA and whole-heartedly congratulate her on her earning the Hot Stove Award. Katie is a good friend and has earned the respect of all umpires wherever she works.

Welcome Home & many congrats.

Jack

To all CCSUA---------------------CCUA [the HS association] & CCSUA are both in dire need of Umpire Recruits for both associations. We are holding a combined FREE....that's FREE... training introduction clinic per below. But, this is NOT....I repeat............NOT for existing CCSUA [or CCUA] members that have already attended our training back in January/February. Instruction/training will be considered Umpiring 101. Just the basics.

It is specifically for recruits, new meat, new blood, raw rookies, transfers in, no experience-necessary types, sons of veteran CCUA/CCSUA members, Little League contacts, current & former volunteer adult umpires, umpire wannabees, those that aspire, new person in the neighborhood, a buddy at work, etc. etc. Pass this email onto them. Here's the scoop:

Date: Sat. 10/29
Time: Registration 8:45am, kickoff 9:15 'til approx 4:30
Location: Pittsburg HS, Varsity field [artificial turf/no metal cleats]
Uniform if available: Black, or be prepared to do some running.
Equipment: Plate gear if available.
Vendor: Jeff Willis'.....The Official's Outlet {existing members may drop by to make purchases]
Lunch: BYO,,,We will have a noonish break
Newspaper Ad: Will be in EastBay Times "What's Happening?" soon.

Please, PLEASE, no....like NO existing CCUA or CCSUA member participation. Just observation only if you must. This training is for RECRUITS ONLY!! Didn't I say that already? However, if you have a son [or daughter] 18 or over that wants to umpire for CCSUA or even CCUA...this is for them. If you know anybody in the youth ranks [Little League, PHBA, Brentwood Pony, etc.] that's ready to move up, then this is for them. CCUA/CCSUA Certified Trainers will be doing their thing so quality instruction is guaranteed. Did I say it's FREE?? Helluva bargain!

Here's all you've gotta do: Get the prospect/recruit [or you can do it for them] to RSVP to me preferably by email if interested. Consider this as pre-registration. Questions to me also. I will need their name, email addy, home address, phone contact info, and a little background info, i.e. experience if any, training done [what, where, when].

That's it!! Did I say: IT'S FREE! Thanks! Jack
