🥎 Instructor Announcement 🥎

We are excited to welcome Jess Weber to the Fungoes Academy instructional staff!

A Bellevue native and Bellevue East graduate, Jess returns home after spending the last five seasons coaching Division I softball at Missouri State University. During her collegiate coaching career, she worked extensively with outfielders, hitters, and recruiting while helping develop numerous All-Conference, All-Tournament, and All-Region players. She was also part of Missouri State's 2022 MVC Tournament Championship coaching staff.

Jess brings a wealth of experience as both a player and instructor, along with a passion for helping athletes grow on and off the field. Most importantly, she's an incredible human being!

At Fungoes Academy, she will work closely with our softball players in hitting, infield play, and outfield development, providing the individualized instruction and support that are at the heart of our Academy model.

One of our goals at Fungoes Academy is simple: surround our players with the best instructors possible and provide them with every resource they need to reach their potential. Adding someone with Division I coaching experience and deep local roots is another step toward delivering on that promise.

Fungoes Academy is getting closer and closer to reaching capacity for Year 1! If you've been thinking about joining us, we encourage you to schedule your individual tryout soon!

Our goal has always been to provide high-level instruction while keeping the individual athlete experience at the center of everything we do. Because of that, enrollment will be capped.

Interested in becoming a coach for a Fungoes Academy team?
All Fungoes Academy coaches receive a paid stipend, while also getting the opportunity to coach within a true development-first system built around elite instruction, structure, and long-term player growth.

One of the biggest differences with Fungoes Academy is that our coaches are NOT expected to handle all of the behind-the-scenes responsibilities that typically come with select baseball and softball.

Fungoes Admin handles:
• Game and tournament scheduling
• Practice planning and organization
• Running player development systems
• Ordering uniforms and gear
• Administrative communication and operations
• Technology integration and player development support

Our instructors will lead the player development process during practices, allowing coaches to focus on teaching, building relationships, and leading their teams.

Fungoes Academy update! ⚾🥎

We're excited by the response we've seen so far, and spots are filling up fast. To make sure every athlete receives the level of coaching and attention that defines Fungoes, we will be placing a cap on the total number of players in our Year 1 Academy.

We fully expect to reach that number, so if you've been thinking about joining us, we'd encourage you to schedule your individual tryout soon.

Fungoes is thrilled to announce the addition of UNO Hall of Famer, two-time Summit League Coach of the Year, and one of the most respected baseball coaches in the Midwest, Evan Porter, as our Chief Growth Officer & Director of Recruiting.

Porter joins Fungoes after nearly 20 years as a player, assistant coach, and head coach at the University of Nebraska Omaha, where he helped shape generations of student-athletes and established himself as one of the most influential figures in program history.

Throughout much of that journey, Porter worked alongside Fungoes Founder Brian Strawn. The two were teammates at Omaha, played professionally overseas together in Sweden, and later spent eight seasons coaching side-by-side at UNO, helping build the Maverick program into a Summit League champion and NCAA Regional participant.

Now, after nearly two decades of building successful teams and developing athletes together, Porter and Strawn are once again joining forces to help lead the next phase of growth at Fungoes.
In his role as Chief Growth Officer & Director of Recruiting, Porter will lead recruiting efforts while helping drive the continued growth of Fungoes through community partnerships, sponsorship development, fundraising initiatives, and long-term strategic planning.

Porter said:
"I'm so thankful for this opportunity that allows me to continue impacting athletes while also being a present husband and father. I'm excited for this next chapter and can't wait to help build something special for athletes and families throughout our community.

Brian and I have spent nearly two decades together as teammates and coaches. Throughout that time, we've always believed that success starts with great people, strong culture, and a shared vision. We've been fortunate to be part of successful teams and programs because we've always focused on building them the right way.

What Brian and his team have built at Fungoes in such a short period of time is remarkable. The vision is clear, the leadership team is exceptional, and the instructors genuinely care about helping athletes reach their potential. I truly believe this is the future of player development."

A member of the UNO Athletic Hall of Fame, Porter is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever wear a Maverick uniform. He remains Omaha's all-time leader in games played, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, and total bases. As a coach, he helped guide Omaha through its Division I transition and led the Mavericks to their first NCAA Division I Regional appearance in 2019. Throughout his coaching career, he earned two Summit League Coach of the Year honors while helping develop countless student-athletes both on and off the field.

The addition of Porter represents another major step forward as Fungoes continues its mission of building the premier player development organization in the Midwest.

Pitching is the lifeblood of baseball and softball, and our athletes are about to have 5,000 sq. ft. dedicated to developing it the right way.

Starting August 1st, Fungoes Academy players will have access to the Fungoes Bullpen, a massive development space built for arm care, velocity, mechanics, recovery, and intentional training. This isn’t just a bullpen. It’s a place for pitchers to grow, compete, and separate themselves.

The future of pitching development at Fungoes is going to be special.
