TODAY!

LeRoy Severson, one of our own here at Summit, has a heart of gold and a personality that leaves everyone smiling. This Sunday, join us at the Platte Community Building for a lunch and silent auction to help defray medical expenses.

LeRoy’s been a steady presence on job sites and in conversations, always quick with a joke and willing to lend a hand. Now’s our chance to return the favor.

Free will donation | Silent auction | Great cause for a great guy.

If you can’t make it in person, donations can be made online through the Platte Fire Department at the link below.

Leroy update: We are getting out of here!!! But not after the hurry and wait. Surgery: The doctor removed every lymph node they could find on the right side of LeRoy's neck, around the thyroid, his thyroid, and tissue that was affected by the cancer. It was pretty full and ugly in there, she said. Thank goodness the Planet Heart screening caught this when they did, as it was spreading for some time. The care team here has been struggling to find a pain medication to bring him comfort, which is why we are still here. His blood pressure has come down to a much safer level. I feel being home without the stress and comfort of his own chair will definitely help a lot. The pain he has been experiencing hasn't even been with the location of his procedure. It is actually from the way he was positioned on the OR table. We were told the surgery would be a maximum of 6 hours, 2 hours to open, remove nodules, and some lymph nodes to send to pathology to look at. Once the doctor saw the ugliness inside the neck, she knew what was coming up. Pathology confirmed her thoughts. So the team started carefully removing cancer, thyroid, and lymph nodes. It was a long process as the lymph nodes were sticky, stuck, and a mess. The doctors wanted to be very careful not to damage his vocal cords, etc. So it took way longer. LeRoy is up and walking, showered, eating, etc. He has definitely kept the nurses on their toes and has had a few very scared as they don't get his sense of humor. For example, when he got to the room, he was dying in pain, but yet pulled a good one off. A young nurse was doing her thing on the computer in the corner of the room, LeRoy rubbed his head with teary eyes and a sad voice and said, where did my hair go, its gone? Nurse with the look of shook, asked LeRoy didn't you have hair before surgery?
We thank each and everyone of you that has stopped to pray, texts, messages, calls, video chats.
We are feeling blessed!!!

Prayer Requests.
Round 2 of the nasty C word. In the beginning of July, LeRoy had the Planet Heart screening done in Platte. During the screening, a few medical concerns came up and threw red flags. The first was nodules found in the right side of his neck, and the second was his heart (drs watching that close). He had an ultrasound, scans, biopsies, tests, and specialists; you name it. Everything showed they were there, but not what they were, we didn't find that out until today. We are at the Avera hospital in S Falls; he went into surgery yesterday morning at 8 and finished up at 7 pm. 11 long hours of just surgery. LONG DAY of worries. He just got back to his room from recovery around 10 pm. To be honest, I hate seeing others, especially my crew, in such terrible pain. The doctor said the nodules are a cancer of the thyroid; they went in, removed them, sent them down to pathology, and after just seeing them, they knew what they were dealing with. As they have a unique shape and color to them, so they started removing all lymph nodes in the neck, which there were a lot of, she said a few were attached, making it very difficult to get to. Then the thyroid was removed, along with more lymph nodes. She felt successful at not damaging the vocal cords or muscles surrounding them. She removed all she could to make sure the majority of any cancerous tissues were gone. He will have more tests in the morning to see if he can go home or stay a few extra days here at the hospital. After some healing time, one or two months, he will start radioactive iodine treatments. These treatments are less damaging and not as harsh on the tissues. Once completed, they will do some testing to see if they feel he is clear or if something more needs to be done. This cancer has a high success rate. He definitely could use prayers for the pain he is in from surgery (my heart 😔), a good recovery, and a successful treatment plan. The Leroy Severson family would much appreciate each and every one.

As many of you may heard but we lost a good one over the weekend. Chad Wentlend passed away Saturday after a hard fought battle with cancer. Chad's love for the outdoors was like no other. He will be greatly missed. 2020 was the first year Chad fished our tournament and came out on top. 2021 he finished 2nd. Please take a moment and say a prayer as Chad leaves behind his wife and 3 boys. RIP bud.
