We’ve been following this journey of a fellow racers.
I’m sharing this very sad story to bring awareness and to ask my friends and family to add Chase and his family to your prayers.
I’m also asking my racing friends to please join in the Chase’s Challenge to practice getting out of your car.
Chase is brave and he is also scared. Father we are asking you to take all the fear away for this family, continue to heal him and give him the strength to keep pushing. Take the pain away, Father you have the power. In Jesus name, Amen.🙏
CASE UPDATE ❤️🩹🙏🏼
I’ve started this update more times than I can count, and every time I’ve stopped because I just haven’t been able to find the words.
Our last update was filled with hope that our next step would be moving Case to rehab. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened yet.
Insurance denied our initial request, and since then we have had to jump through hurdle after hurdle, including getting additional denials from burn centers closer to home in order to prove that the care we believe is best for Case is here in Oklahoma City.
But we finally have some good news on that front… Case has now been accepted to Bethany, and we are waiting for placement. ❤️🩹
Before we can get there, though, we have another mountain to climb.
This morning at 7:45 AM, Case will undergo yet another surgery. They will be doing patch grafting and potentially taking care of some other tedious areas while he is under anesthesia.
So right now, more than anything, we are asking every single one of our prayer warriors to please pray over our boy.
Pray for a safe and successful surgery.
Pray that the doctors are able to accomplish everything they need to while he is under.
Pray for his pain afterward.
Pray for his donor sites, because those have been some of the most painful parts of this entire process.
Pray for a quick recovery so we can finally take the next step toward rehab.
And please, pray for Case’s heart and his fear. Our boy is scared. He’s cried. He’s told us he’s afraid. He has been through more in the last almost two months than any 12-year-old should ever have to comprehend, and yet somehow he continues to show us just how unbelievably strong he is.
During the time I haven’t posted, Case has been doing absolutely amazing in so many ways. He continues to work, heal, laugh, talk, joke, and remind us that our Case is still very much in there fighting with everything he has.
But I also don’t want to sugarcoat this part of his recovery.
The showers, dressing changes, wound care and debridement have been horrific.
There really aren’t words that adequately describe what it is like to stand beside your child while they endure that kind of pain. I would take every second of it from him without hesitation if I could. I would trade places with him a thousand times before watching him endure another minute of it.
Some days, it feels unbearable.
And maybe that’s part of why I haven’t posted. We’ve been trying desperately to find some kind of balance between being here for Case and still being Mom and Dad to the rest of our babies five hours away. There is no right answer. There is no way to be everywhere we need to be at once.
I drove home to be with our other kids, only to find out that same morning that Case would be going back into surgery less than two days later.
So we adjust again. We pack again. We drive again. We show up again.
Because that’s what we will continue to do for however long our boy needs us.
I wish this were an easier update. I wish I had something beautiful or profound to say, but right now I don’t. We’re tired. We’re scared. And right now, we just really need our village.
Please cover Case in prayer this morning.
Pray for steady hands in that operating room. Pray for comfort when he wakes up. Pray for healing. Pray that these grafts take. Pray that his donor sites heal quickly. Pray that this is one more hurdle behind him and that Bethany and rehab are finally right around the corner.
And to every single person who has continued praying, calling, texting, donating, checking on our other children, helping our family, supporting Case, supporting us, and simply refusing to let us walk through this alone, thank you.
There will never be words big enough for what our village has done for our family.
Today, we just ask you to do it one more time.
Please pray hard for our boy. ❤️🩹🙏🏼
7:45 AM.
Case Higgins.
We’ve got another mountain to climb. ❤️🩹
