One of my favorite times of the year — when the dogs are excited, the fields come alive, and memories are made out in the hunt.

🦆 How to Prep Your Bird for the Taxidermist 🦆

Got a beautiful bird this season you’d like mounted? Proper prep in the field makes all the difference in how your mount turns out. Here’s how to keep your trophy in great shape 👇

1️⃣ Don’t gut it! Leave your bird whole.
2️⃣ Wipe off any blood or debris with a damp cloth or paper towel.
3️⃣ Wrap the beak and feet with a wet paper towel — this helps prevent drying and cracking.
4️⃣ Tuck the head gently under a wing to protect feathers from damage.
5️⃣ Place the bird in a plastic or Ziplock bag (double-bagging helps prevent freezer burn).
6️⃣ Freeze it as soon as possible!

When you’re ready, bring it in frozen and I’ll take care of the rest.
Good prep = a beautiful, lifelike mount you’ll be proud to display. 🪶
