Just a quick post to piggyback on what I posted yesterday.

The Joey Kledzik Memorial tournament in Plainfield is a special event for me. You see, a few years ago we celebrated Joeys life and legacy before the championship game in the tournament bearing Joey’s name, being played on the field also bearing his name. I presented Joey’s family, who selfishly dedicated themselves to starting this tournament many years ago after Joey’s passing, a framed jersey with Joeys name and his signature #2.
It was a touching moment that I couldn’t be happier about being involved in. I know that Joeys family makes a visit to his field every year during the tournament, and I wish I could have seen them this year but I was at a different location working on fields.

Joey’s passion for life and for the game of baseball will forever be one of the reasons that I continue to do this.

While his story may have faded over the years, he will always have a presence in my mind and in my heart as I continue this journey.

I’m doing the best I can to give a little more than I take in life. Thank you Joey Kledzik for helping me keep focus.

Last night, I was chatting with a friend who was playing in a local baseball tournament. It was being run by the organization where I got my start doing fields with rain expected overnight I offered to be “on call” if they needed my help.
I went and picked up my trailer and my machine last night, just in case. We got a little rain overnight, but there was more expected between 6 and 8 AM. I headed out to the fields and it started raining shortly thereafter. I left for a bit and came back shortly after the rain stopped. They were using five fields at the complex that I went to, and they were all a mess.
They pushed the games back a few hours, and I got to work.
I did fields for this organization for at least six or seven years, and never made a penny. I was there day, night, overnight and way too much. I’ve been back a time two over the last four years to help out, and I can say that if they ever need me, I’ll always be back.
Without getting into details, this weekend’s tournament is a special tournament. It means a lot to me and I have fond memories of my son playing in the tournament.
Everybody’s playing now. All the fields have been fixed and look pretty darn good considering your amount rain we got in a short period of time.
I’m pretty tired, I have to go clean my machine and take it back to where I store it, but I’m gonna get back out there later and watch a game. It’s nice to see athletes playing on a field that I traded my day to get playable.

Can never have enough water, unless it rains a lot then that’s too much water and that sucks.

It’s a fine line and I’m usually one step to either side.

I have to edge 4 fields. It sucks, I’ll be the first to tell you that. Looking for some young men or women to come help me.

The other day I went out to the fields I work on regularly, just to make sure all my equipment starts and runs. After getting everything running, I hopped on my machine and started working on a field. I started to think back to each and every March over the last decade and a half…. I’m always excited to get going.

Truth be told, I’m hurting right now. I got a bad ‘get around stick’ (that would be my left knee which I have a torn meniscus in) and a bad wing (my right elbow that’s just plain f’d and I don’t know why).

I have a LOT to do at our fields and I’m considering taking on another commitment (hopefully that news will be shared soon and it’s exciting for me).

I’m super excited to see players on our fields and I’m even more excited to give them the best fields I can. I thought about stepping back soon, but instead I’m stepping up. I am gonna make this the best year yet for these players. I want parents, players, coaches umpires and everyone else to talk about our fields. I want people to WANT to play there.

Everyone loves a turf field, but I’m gonna make sure that dirt doesn’t get forgotten. Flat and level with straight crisp lines, little extras here and there to make the experience a great one.

I am probably going to be missing a lot of personal time, but I’m gonna make it worth it.

Carpe Diem, seize the day, do anything, do something.
