Palumbo Shihan, founder of the Hakkoryu Martial Arts Federation, committed more than 40 years of his life to teaching Hakkoryu Jujutsu, traveling around the country offering seminars, holding annual Gasshuku (large gathering for the purpose of training), and providing a path for rank in Hakkoryu Jujutsu to all qualified individuals. Palumbo Shihan respectfully retired from the Hombu Dojo in 1998.

In an effort to continue passing the teachings of Shodai Soke Okuyama Ryohu and abide by the current wishes of the Hombu Dojo, he created the system Hakko Densho Ryu. Hakko Densho Ryu - meaning Hakkoryu taught as Palumbo Shihan was taught, the technique passed down in the traditional manner, by word of mouth. In 2008 Palumbo Shihan turned over the active administration of HMAF to his student, Dara Masi. He named Dara Masi as Director of HMAF and gave her the responsibility for all teaching, ranking, and administration of HMAF. Masi Shihan is honored to continue her teacher’s work. She travels extensively teaching classes and is known for her precise, detail based and open instruction. She enjoys working with martial artists of all styles and invites you to experience the beauty and efficiency of Hakko Densho Ryu Jujutsu.

Virtual Hojojutsu Classes with Shihan Dara Masi

During this time of struggle in our world, we are finding new ways to learn, support each other and connect through virtual resources. To further this effort and in response to many requests, I am offering online virtual Hojojutsu Classes.

There is no formal charge for these classes. I will accept donations at the end of each class to help cover my costs to produce online education.

This class is open to any martial artist who wishes to learn. You don't need a partner or any experience. Please email me for more information and link to register. Class size will be limited. You are welcome to share this post.

Homemade Hand Sanitizer

Mix together:
2/3 cup 91% rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or ethanol
1/3 cup aloe vera gel

Note: It’s important to note that at least 91% rubbing alcohol must be used for this recipe. If you can only find the 70%, then use a ratio of 90% rubbing alcohol and 10% aloe vera gel. Anything less and the sanitizer will not be effective. Avoid adding essential oils as many people are allergic to them or else could have a negative reaction. If you must add one, choose lemon or grapefruit.

Caution: Using excessive amounts of hand sanitizer with rubbing alcohol can create toxicity in the body, as it’s twice as toxic as ethanol alcohol, the form contained in alcoholic drinks (when consumed internally, it causes central nervous system depression, internal bleeding and even death). If concerned, substitute an ethanol alcohol, such as Everclear for rubbing alcohol.
