Fallen tree clearing continues to be one of the primary steward tasks across all of the parks. These trees were removed from Frick Park trails in the past few days.

Throughout May we worked on finishing repairs to Dinky Bridge trail that we started during our end of April steward training. Many sections of this trail suffered from erosion over the years, some of which was due to broken stormwater pipes in Regent Square that were recently repaired. So we're hopeful that the clay soil and rocks that we have added back to the trail surface will remain in place for a long time. The entrance from the street was also realigned to a more sustainable route that will be less prone to washing out and widening.

The large fallen tree on the lower section of Bradema trail is now fully cut out and the trail is clear. Thanks to DPW for getting it started and showing us it was hollow so we could finish it. Well not totally hollow, it was full of compost!

We had a great Steward Training day on Sunday in Frick Park. Thanks to everyone that came out to learn about maintaining trails and also helped make many drainage improvements! New volunteers and experienced stewards were able to work on four separate projects on Dinky Bridge and Rollercoaster trails.

This part of Bradema is meant to be closed until sewage work is complete so perhaps it was fate that this huge tree fell and closed the trail. It is impassable and both sections of the trail are blocked so please use Biddle Trail as a detour until it's cleared. Please do not create your own path around the tree.

At the end of March, Bradema Trail received some much needed spring maintenance to address wet and muddy sections and repair a spot where a fallen tree tore out the edge of the trail. We built a retaining wall from the rock exposed by the fallen tree to shore up the side of the trail.

Wet spots had all of the decomposing leaves removed and drainage restored. Spring seeps will often flow water out of the ground for a few weeks and all we can do is make sure it gets off the trail asap. We added more rock armoring to the 'S turn' near the log piles as that section gets particularly soft due to seeps.

Many thanks to our 8 volunteers who put in 35 hours getting Bradema trail back in shape!
