What does re-opening Pennsylvania mean for our community? Read the latest update:

Hi, Stonewall –

As we communicated last week, the Stonewall Alliance Board is taking the time during the current “yellow” phase to re-open Pennsylvania to develop plans outlining what our own return-to-play could look like. The board’s primary focus is currently on options for bowling, sand volleyball, kickball, and bocce.

As they stand right now, state guidelines around the next phase (green) are incredibly vague, and may impact each of our programs differently. Each program involves cooperation from different city departments and facility managers.

For instance, sand volleyball, kickball, and bocce occur in city-owned parks. Therefore, we have requested and are awaiting local planning guidance from the City of Pittsburgh as we rely on cooperation from both the Department of Parks and Recreation and Department of Public Works for occupancy and sanitation.

On May 18, the city responded to our request for planning guidance saying it will not be tied to one opening date (for any fields, courts, park shelters, etc.) in yellow vs. green. Therefore, Stonewall leadership simply must wait for final guidance from all parties.

Additionally, Pennsylvania moving to the green phase does not necessarily guarantee the league can operate as "normal." Once we are able to return to play, we will still be following all pertinent CDC, Pennsylvania health department, and city guidelines, which means league play may look quite different.

Each commissioner is developing a health and safety outline for their sport which will be published along with league rules before registration opens. The outline will detail potential modified rules, extra cleaning procedures and other precautions the league is taking to create a safer environment.

Once we receive approval from all necessary partners and have a plan in place, it’s important to remember that the decision to play is ultimately in the hands of the individual player. We will ensure that all precautions are thoughtful and reliably executed, but we encourage each player to evaluate their own comfort level before deciding to participate.

We will continue to make the best decisions we can with the information we have. Please know the community’s safety and wellbeing will continue to be our top priority. Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

This wasn’t an easy decision but we feel it’s best for everyone. T shirts are still being printed once Commonwealth Press picks up operations again. Once we have them in hand we will plan a football fun day for everyone to wear their shirts and play some flag football so stay tuned for more information!!! ** you still will be receiving a full refund***

Hi, everyone –

As we shared last week, Stonewall Alliance Leadership has been closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and weighing our options regarding how to best proceed with our community’s activities.

After much careful consideration, we have decided to cancel the following:

▪️ Stonewall Dodgeball playoffs, scheduled for March 22
▪️ Stonewall Spring Kickball, season in its entirety (refunds will be issued)
▪️ Bridge City Flag Football, season in its entirety (refunds will be issued)
▪️ Dodgeball end-of-season party, scheduled for March 22
▪️ Bridge City Flag Football kickoff party, scheduled for March 21
▪️ Stonewall Night Out: Axe Throwing, scheduled for March 25
▪️ Kickball kickoff party, scheduled for April 3

Please know it is with genuinely heavy hearts that we announce this decision; of course we didn’t want to see these events cancelled. But given guidelines from CDC, PA Health Department, and City of Pittsburgh, we simply saw no other viable options that keep our community’s well-being at number one on our priority list.

We truly believe this is the best decision to ensure we all rise out of this better and stronger than ever.

Continue reading for some quick resources to make this as seamless as possible. As always, please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns: [email protected].

FAQ

▪️ What guided this decision?

As of March 15, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.

Please visit CDC website to learn more: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html

▪️ Will I receive a refund for Stonewall Kickball and Bridge City Flag Football?

Absolutely. Refunds will be processed by Friday through LeagueApps, though funds may take longer to appear in your bank account depending on your provider. Ideally, you can expect a full refund from us within 7-14 business days.

▪️ What if things get better before the end of those seasons?

At this time, we believe it’s best to play it safe to do our part to flatten the curve of infection rates. That being said, leadership unanimously agreed that we will continuously re-evaluate our options so we can stay ready to jump into action should the situation drastically change.

▪️ How can I stay connected to Stonewall in the meantime?

We are deeply aware that folks rely on Stonewall for community, and we’d be remiss to not explore some innovative options to bring us all together remotely. We’re already putting our heads together – stay tuned. Have an idea to share? Email us! [email protected]

Updated Registration Information!!!!!!
Everyone will register as a FREE AGENT!!!!
If you are interested in being a team captain please select yes when asked!

Team Captains will be selected by a panel of representatives from BCFF and Stonewall Alliance board. If you are selected to be a team captain you are allowed to pick 3 people to be on your team as part of your "coaching staff". These positions come with high expectations to build and develop your team, ensure equal playing time, rules are being followed and everyone is having fun. The rest of the team will be assigned to you based off of the self assessment.

Self assessment: Please take this seriously as this is how you will be assigned to a team to help ensure a level playing field.
We understand that this may be different from other registration processes you may be familiar with. The BCFF board went back and forth with many ideas on how we can make this a better process to level out the playing field and this is what we feel is best. It may work and it may not but we ask that you keep an open mind and give it a try. We are all learning together and we want everyone to feel excited to come each week to play a sport and have fun, after all the overall goal of this league is to have fun and meet new people!
Please join us at the Abbey on Saturday at 6pm so we can answer any questions and get you pre registered!!!!
