Clarksville Freedom Trails

Clarksville Freedom Trails This nature trail is wheelchair friendly. It traverses wooded land and includes difficulties of grades ranging from easy to intermediate.

Clarksville Freedom Trails is the only known limited mobility trail in the North Country that can accommodate wheelchairs. This mile and a half long trail traverses wooded land and has several loops including difficulties of grades ranging from easy to intermediate. The trail is accessed from Bressette Road in Clarksville, NH with two entrances to the trail. Clarksville Freedom Trails was built th

rough donations, grants, and three Eagle Scout projects benefiting the trail system. For your convenience, there are multiple wheelchair accessible picnic tables along the way where you can enjoy a packed lunch or have a rest. Please, have a wonderful experience on your journey through nature, wildlife, and a peaceful, stress-free environment. We are trying to improve the trails each year. If you have any comments, please leave them here on our page or call 603-538-6342. Your donations or help for trail maintenance are appreciated and welcomed. Thank you,
David Chappell, President of Clarksville Freedom Trails

Please enjoy our trails this summer. If you get a chance, stop and visit the landowners at the barn on Cedar Stream Road. Sales there support the maintenance fund. Hours will be most Friday and Saturdays 10 to 4 for the summer season.

Bressette Rd is rutty. We have to give it time to settle before gravel can arrive.

As we anticipate another trail season, we look forward to everyone enjoying the warmer weather.
Having a map handy always helps! The trails cover about 50 acres of the old Chappell Family farm. The property has been in the family for multiple generations dating back to pre-1850. The yellow trail starts at the upper (East) entrance and exits at the lower (West) entrance. The Yellow trail is called Maple Grove because it traverses through the maple trees that used to be tapped over 40 years ago. The red trail is called Round Wood because originally the edges of the trail were banked with round pieces of cut trees. The white trail is called the Bridge Loop because this is where you will find the covered bridge. The blue and purple trails are the Upper Wilderness and Lower Wilderness. They received their names because of a Tillotson grant that helped fund those two trails. They were cut in to make a shorter option when walking the trails.

Next winter we hope to have the road open to the trail entrances. As another bit of trail news, please follow and visit The Barn as there we will be raising funds to support the landowners and the trail system.
