Please join us in welcoming Michael Cook as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach at Pittsburg High School! Most recently serving as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at NCAA Division II Claflin University, Coach Cook brings more than 15 years of head coaching experience, three Conference Coach of the Year honors, championship success, and a proven track record of developing student-athletes both on and off the court. We are excited for the leadership, experience, and passion he brings to our basketball program and school community!🏀

Pittsburg softball (5A, 22-4) is headed back to the 5A State Tournament under head coach Chanc Gomez after another impressive postseason run.

The Dragons earned their state berth Tuesday night with a thrilling 6-4 walk-off win over St. James Academy in the regional championship game. Brecken Campbell delivered the big swing with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, one of her two home runs on the night as she finished with four RBI.

Micah Gomez added two hits and two runs scored while Breck Slaughter tossed a complete game in the circle to help send Pittsburg back to state after last year’s fourth-place finish.

Pittsburg’s lineup also features one of the top hitters in Kansas in Brette Pasteur, who is hitting over .500 this season after earning S*K Top 9 All Classes honors a year ago. Opponents continue to pitch around her bat, as Pasteur was avoided throughout regionals and drew six walks combined in the semifinal and championship games alone.

The Dragons once again look like one of the top contenders in 5A heading into the state tournament.
