1st game day of the season is in the books. I’m so proud of our Dogs, football, and cheer💙💛🤍
We may not have won, but each team played well. We came out today and left with a couple of things to work and grow from, but that’s all part of the game, the continuous growth and improvement of each participant as they age, not only as a player but as an individual, is what it is about. We are out here for the kids. We are out here to help guide them into the love of the game, to teach them and make adjustments, and at the end of the game to leave it on the field. A win or a loss does not define you. Play your game, give it your all, and have fun!
We had a couple of touchdowns today, which is great for our teams. I’m excited to see these kids grow as individuals, as a team, and as a Bulldog. Coaches and Parents, let’s remember this is not the NFL. These kids are learning and are out here because they love the game. They’re building relationships with their teammates, growing as a team, and will make mistakes on the field. It's all a part of their growth. I know everyone wants to “win” but good sportsmanship isn’t shown by a score. Our players are going to see us show good sportsmanship from the stands, the sidelines as well as on the field.
Our cheer teams showed leadership, were loud, and above all, are supportive of our football teams and cheered them on til the end.
With that said, I’ve received a few emails today. One of which is, a discussion of why we only have cheer teams on two levels and not all 4, leaving two teams without cheerleaders and team support. So I would like to clear this up. Yes, we have participants of the ages for the teams missing cheerleaders on the sidelines for the 2 teams that do not have teams. It was decided to combine teams and make 2 due to numbers, routines, and overall cheer staff. That does not mean we do not support the teams without cheerleaders, it means we are building the program and trying to make it a great experience for all the participants at the end of the day. You cannot have an effective cheer squad with 4 participants, it makes sense to combine and give them an experience of a larger squad and allow them to love the sport that much more to keep returning to cheer for years to come throughout their high school years. If they don’t love the sport, kids don’t want to continue to show up and participate. It is our responsibility to provide the best opportunities for the participants to continue to play the sport they love, and that may mean combining teams for a season.
This also applies to football. We need players to have a successful season. We will continue to add players for a couple more weeks, so please spread the word, let people know MYF is back open, and let's get more participants signed up. Our Varsity team needs players right now. Every time they get enough for their roster, additional players leave and go to another city because they're worried that Varsity wouldn't have a season. It is things like this that cause teams to not have a season. As a community, let's get the word out and get these players some more sign-ups so they can have a season. If you know kids that are 12-14, please have them come out to practice and see us at the table to get them signed up. Our Varsity players won't get the season they were hoping for if you don't.
Each season comes with different challenges. After being closed for 2020 & 2021, seeing these kids and their families come back out and support their small town organization is wonderful to see. Participation from YOU is what keeps this organization going. If YOU want MYF to be successful, MYF needs to be backed by its community, by its businesses within that community, and by the small school district that our participants and families eventually feed into. So let's build on this season, let's show these kids that it matters to us that they have MYF as their town organization, and let’s support them, the parents, coaches, and board that give their time volunteering to make this season a success.
