This is a rescue I follow in Tennessee. They used to be in California but they moved. Like most rescues, they get their share of bad-mouthing, but I think all in all, they seem to have avgreat business plan and help a lot of animals.

Anyhow, I am posting this because I don’t think a lot of horse owners don’t realize this is a real thing. In my experience, bone loss in p3 - the coffine bone - commonly can be the result of repeated concussion on very hard surfaces. In this case, it is one of many crippling issues in the world of “Big Lick” horses - the top-class Tennessee Walkers that are the most prized and abused horses of that breed.

Please watch. This is a great reason to avoid hard, rocky trails, concrete and asphalt, or any bad ground that results in an assault on the bones in your horse’s feet.
