My horse, Chief, featured in my book, The Big Quiet--One Woman's Horseback Ride Home, and with whom I rode 500-miles in 2012, you may know had to be put down last May, 2021. I finally am getting a new horse, thanks to dear friends. Mary Bousfield and Rick at Huckleberry Stables said "no" when I asked if they would sell me Shiloh. But Mary said if anyone rode him, she would want it to be me, so I will be caring for and riding Shiloh for Mary. This was the most profound act I can remember. I had ridden Shiloh just two weeks after we put Chief down with colic after surgery didn't work. I was scheduled to go ride the Huckleberry State Forest at Rick and Mary Bousfield's Huckleberry Ridge Stables, but I didn't want to, so soon after losing Chief. But I wanted to see Rick and Mary. They put me on Shiloh. I fell in love with him, a choppy little Paint, compared with smooth Chief. He was a peach. I will bring Shiloh home to Sitter Downs Stables near Lone Jack, Missouri, next week.
