VGA Massachusetts has begun the Fall part of the 2027 season with a bang.
Thanks to one of our members, Wesley Watts we visited beautiful Wood Hole Golf Course in Falmouth, Ma.
This course was in pristine condition. The greens were fast and challenging ( 3putts were very common). Add that to the wind blowing over 20mph off Buzzards Bay and we had as challenging a day a golfer could ask for.
Thanks again to Wesley and the Staff at Woods Hole.

Only 4 slots remaining for our Veteran’s Day event on Nov 11, 2026 at Highfields Golf and Country Club in Grafton,Ma.
The ownership had generously donated the Greens fees to us, the only charge will be if you want a golf cart !!!!

I want to take a moment to recognize our regional directors, who work tirelessly behind the scenes on behalf of our members.

Their leadership goes far beyond what most people see. It’s the countless hours, phone calls, travel, problem-solving, and personal sacrifices that keep our regions moving and make our organization what it is today.

The VGA simply wouldn’t be the same without them.

When you see these four gentlemen at our National Championship, take a moment to shake their hands and thank them for their dedication, commitment, and sacrifice to our members and our mission.

🚨🚨🚨🚨New Event Added🚨🚨🚨🚨
We are extending our golf season by atleast one more event.
VGA Massachusetts will be returning to Green Hill Golf Course in Worcester,Ma on Sat. Nov 14 We have a limited number of spots due sunset this time of year.
This the top Muni in central Mass. We played this last fall and our members we all requesting a return visit. Thanks to the City of Worcester and the staff at Green Hill for fitting us in again.
We will try to keep adding events if weather and interest holds out as long as possible.

VGA Massachusetts please read this post from VGA Virginia. This explains the new Handicap Base for the current 2027 season. If you look on your personal VGA dashboard you may have noticed your handicap dropped.
This is response to members thoughts and comments to address the past handicap issues.
The key take away once you have an established Cap Base your handicap can not go 4 strokes above that number for 18 months from that low Cap base’s date.

📊 DID YOU KNOW? THE VGA CAPS YOUR HANDICAP.

Here is a rule that protects every single person who tees it up with us and most members do not know it exists.

Your VGA Handicap Index cannot climb more than 4.0 above your Cap Base.

🔹 What is a Cap Base? It is your lowest round differential over the last 18 months. In plain English: the best golf you have played in a year and a half.

🔹 What does the cap do? Your Handicap Index is not allowed to rise more than 4.0 strokes above that number, no matter what your recent scorecards say.

📐 HOW IT WORKS

Say your lowest differential in the past 18 months is 11.7. That sets your Cap Base at 11.7.

Add 4.0, and your ceiling is 15.7.

Now say you hit a rough patch and your index climbs to 17.5. It does not stay there. The system pulls it back down to 15.7; your maximum.

Your index moves back up only if your Cap Base itself changes.

🎯 WHY THIS MATTERS

Because some divisions and flights play net golf, and net golf only works if everybody's number is honest.

Every flight you win, you win against a field that is measured the same way you are. That is worth something.

⛳ CHECK YOUR OWN NUMBER Log in to your member dashboard and look at your Handicap tile. Your Cap Base and your current index are both there.

📌 ONE HEADS-UP. If you are working from an older copy of the Players Manual, you may see this described as "Low Index" with a +5 buffer. Cap Base replaced that. The current rule is your lowest differential over 18 months, plus 4.0. Go by your dashboard, not by an old PDF.

Courses Registration Update

After a small hiccup with Woods Holes Registration for Oct 20. 2026 , it is now back for open registration. We only have 7 spots left !!!
This is an invoiced event. You will be sent an invoice upon registration and this must be paid before Oct 13,2026. Any unpaid invoices at that time will forfeit their spots on the roster and given to a member on the waiting list.
We have received a lot of interest in this beautiful course. So, do not wait to long spots are going fast.

Woods Hole Golf Club on Tuesday October 20 is filling up fast. This beautiful private track with scenic views of Buzzard Bay has had tremendous interest despite only open for registration for a few days.
We are capped at 40 spots, so do not put off registering if you’re planning on attending.
If we do fill up please get in the wait list we usually work through that list.

🚨🚨🚨🚨The 2027 VGA Golf Season opens today 🚨🚨🚨🚨
Now that the new season has begun , registration is now open for our 3 fall events.
📆 First event is October 20 at Woods Hole Golf Club in Woods Hole,Ma. This is a fantastic private course with scenic views along Buzzards Bay on Cape Cod. We have 40 spots.
📆 Second event New England CC in Bellingham, Ma on Saturday October 31. Halloween costumes are optional. We have only 20 spots
📆 Last scheduled for 2027 Highfields Golf and CC in Grafton Ma. This event is on Veteran’s Day November 11. Thanks to the generosity of Highfields the greens fee have been donate. The only change for members is the cart fee. We have 40 spots for this event

The 2026 VGA season will be ending tomorrow. This was by all accounts a successful year for the Massachusetts chapter. We increased membership and players per event.
We are hard at work on the 2027 schedule. We will have our usual member favorites as we work in new courses for us to experience.

Oct 20 Woods Hole , Falmouth
Oct 31 New England CC , Bellingham ( costumes optional)
Nov 11(Veterans Day) Highlands Golf and CC , Grafton.. the Green fees are free only charge is for cart.
It’s never too early to get those 3 events in for post season eligibility.
