Race day recap: With all the tracks we normally race at canceled due to weather, we decided to try something new and make the trip to Charleston Speedway. We went in not really knowing how the night would go with a new track and still trying to dial in the setup.
We went out for qualifying and realized we had the wrong gear in it. The car was hitting the limiter, so we couldn’t build the speed we needed, and we ended up 11th out of 17.
After qualifying, we came in and had some oil cleanup to take care of. The crew jumped right on it and got everything cleaned up - can’t thank them enough. We also got the gears changed and headed out for the heat race.
Starting on the outside of the third row, we fell back early because of limited visibility, but then we dropped the hammer, found our groove, and drove back up to finish 5th.
For the feature, we started 9th and worked our way up to 7th. Then the driver got in over his head, drove it in too hard, and spun out, sending us to the rear of the field. But we got back after it, got back up on the wheel, and came home with an 8th-place finish.
All in all, not a bad night. We learned a lot, and it feels good to have a car that can hold its own.
