Hi guys! Haven't been posting much for awhile but am going to try to get back to putting up posts about our Cross Country Course @ Country Haven, Woodstown NJ which is available to anyone to school for only $50. I'll also try to post some more educational articles that will hopefully advance education about riders communicating with their horses with seat, leg and weight aids and lots less rein aids.

Let's analyze the jumps a bit.

Our course has something for everyone. The first photo has 5 different jump heights. The snake has 4 different heights. The coffin can be jumped with 1 rail, 2 rails or no rails. The coffin itself is only 2' wide at 1 end and 3' wide at the other end. There are also 2 sets of portable standards and rails available next to the coffin, so an instructor could add a jump on either side of the coffin making it a triple with any distances that they want. The bank can be jumped up or down off of the front or one can jump up or down on just 1 side or one can jump up and down across the bank. The front of the bank is the highest and the height of the sides vary according to where one jumps it.

It is a great training course with lots of progressive questions.

If a rider just wants to use the 150' x 250' ring for the dressage arena and stadium/hunter type jumps, it is only $20. If you want to use all 3, it's discounted to $65. The large dressage arena can be made a small arena within minutes. The footing is phenomenal. Roomy parking area with easy turn around. Ground people, instructors or spectators can drive cars back to the cross country course.

A stream is available if I have prior notice since it is in a pasture. Portable jumps can be put in or on either side of the stream if desired. Also can add a liverpool in the ring.

Instructors are welcome with their students. I try to accommodate, even on short notice.

If you want to try a lesson with Earlen Haven (resume on website), privates are $75 for 45 min and only $20 more to add another 1/2 hr. (1 1/4 hr for $95).

Prices for semi-private or group lessons are on the website.

No course fees for lessons with Earlen, so if you decided to take a 45 min. xc lesson, the lesson is only costing you $25 more than schooling yourself. 1 1/4 lesson is basically only costing you $45 more than schooling yourself.

Have not posted in quite awhile about our cross country course. So I just want to remind everyone that we are open. XC fees are only $50. Schooling in the ring (exceptional footing) with dressage arena (lrg/sm) and jumps only $20. Everything only $65!

Country Haven is located in Woodstown NJ. countryhavenfarms.com has photos of jumps and facilities and a multitude of info. Also if you are interested in lessons (w/ no facility fees) Earlen is $75 for 3/4 hr. and a special of $95 for 1 1/4 hr. private.

Instructors with their students are welcome also.

It's been awhile ago since I posted, "Any ideas for an agent for a farm policy/prof. liab. insurance policy?"

First of all, I want to thank EVERYONE that sent me options. I did check a bunch out and I am grateful for the info.

I ended up going with a suggestion from someone that steered me to Liz Harrison with Kathy Berry Agency. Someone had referred her to me but before I got to her, she had contacted me. (And many thanks to whoever suggested her). She was great!.

I had a very bad experience with my prior company, thus I had a million questions, to double check that I was actually covered appropriately this time and at a reasonable price.

Liz was more than patient, very knowledgeable and I felt the policy was reasonably priced.

I gave every agent the exact same information and the quotes that came back from different companies had huge variances in premiums ...and sometimes a company had given me quotes through 2 different agencies and they even greatly varied. It was mind boggling!

Also, give yourself plenty of time before your renewal.

Looking for 2 forever horses.....have 2 that are having to be retired.

One is for myself. One is for my friend and client. Both will be kept at Country Haven, Woodstown NJ.

I always liked to know that my horses were going to a good home, so if interested, please start with our website countryhavenfarms.com. Facilities and my resume are available there in addition to some short videos showing our method of training horses. Joan will be boarding and continuing taking lessons with me at our farm. Many references available.

We have about 13 + acres of Ky Blue Grass pasture with a huge shed and a regular horse barn. Lots of turnout.

We're not looking to show. We have trails, field, ring, dressage arena, xc course etc. I often teach out in the field and trails.

Joan is an adult who loves to learn. I teach an extremely soft rein and to ride with your seat and leg aids. All horses understand those aids. Joan's last horse was owned by me before. She took a lot of lessons with me before she got him. His name was Chance. He was a white warmblood and is shown in one of the videos on our website with another one of my riders. So that will give you an idea of what she has been riding. The other 2 riders in the short videos are my daughter and myself schooling horses. That should give you an idea of my riding and teaching thoughts, which is "let the horse carry himself" no matter what discipline you ride.

Joan probably would be looking for a 15.3 hd - 16.1 hd gelding, maybe 5 years to mid teens. Would prefer not to have a green one for her. We always "school" some when we ride, but we just enjoy hacking through the woods and fields also. Requirements are quiet temperament, sane, sound and on no meds. We're not looking for any major projects, she (we) want to just enjoy our horses at this stage of our lives.

Both horses have to be geldings! I love mares, but both horses here are geldings and one of my retired ones is healing from a suspensory that he did in the field and I don't want him running around, which with a mare around, he might.

Although I have trained professionally for 60 years, at this point, I am now 81, (but was riding 5 days a week until recently when the horses got retired.) but I just want a really quiet, good mannered gelding. Preferably 15.2 - 16 hds. Could be older than Joan's but must be sane and sound and on no meds. I would possibly consider a free lease but would prefer to buy.

I usually ride to demonstrate while I teach. Although I don't jump anymore, it would be ok if the horse has jumped before since I sometimes let a student ride one of mine to teach them various things that their horses can't do at the moment, for whatever reason.

Although I sold horses for years as part of my business, I have not been involved in that for years now, so I don't know what prices are today. Just let us know your price and we'll have to see what the market is today as to what we look at.

Just wanted to thank all of the many people who attended DR's Celebration of Life. The visitation line went on for over 2 hours. The church was filled for the service! A pastor who did my husband's service 2 years ago had retired to Florida and flew up to do DR's service. I wanted someone who knew him.

Everyone was so kind to offer us help of any kind. So many people supplied us with lots of food! Many phoned. Some sent flowers, sympathy cards, Mass cards, etc.

Thanks to all who donated to the Children's Heart Foundation which we picked because of DR's congenital heart surgery that he had at 18 months old, with a 10% chance of living. They focus on research for congenital heart problems.

In addition, it knocked my socks off of how many came a huge distance. Our family came from Florida and Massachusetts. A friend of DR's flew in from Hawaii. Some of my students flew in from Texas. Two drove 12 hrs from NC. One I taught as a teenager, then taught her kids a few times when they were young and I hadn't seen her for decades.

So many went to great lengths to offer condolences.

We will miss him greatly. We thank everyone for their outpouring of love!

But more pertinent.......

I usually do not use facebook or my email list for personal info but since a lot of my students from over the years did know my son DR (Don) Haven Jr, I am posting personal info this time.

On Monday 11/24/25, he was a passenger in a car that was in a horrific car accident and he was killed. He was 46 years old, and will dearly miss spending time with his 6 year old daughter who was the love of his life.

When his daughter, Olivia, heard about the accident, she wanted to call her Aunt Kelby to see how she was, how Grandmom was and to ask if Dougie, her Golden Retriever puppy, had gone to heaven with Daddy. Thankfully, Aunt Kelby was able to tell her...... no, Grandmom has Dougie with her on the farm and she will keep him, for her.

Details are as follows:
DR was cremated. The Celebration of Life is being held Sat. 12/20/25 @ 1 PM (with visitation from 11AM to 1 PM) at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 149 S. Main St., Woodstown, NJ 08098.

DR had been born with a congenital heart problem with a 10% chance of living. He had to be fed every 2 hours around the clock until he was 18 months old and was able to have his surgery. Thus, in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Children's Heart Foundation, which does congenital heart defect research.
