Horse stories and Biblical principles.
A few years ago, DeeDee and I had a disagreement about whether or not she was capable of riding a green horse. She believed she was incapable because she had never done it before. I believed she was fully capable based on the skills she currently had - all she lacked was a little guidance.
I was set on proving I was right. And so began a 3-part video series on starting a green horse (starring DeeDee). You will have to watch the series for yourself to see how it all unfolds, and who wins the argument. 💥SPOILER ALERT💥: the rest of this post might give it away.
My disagreement with DeeDee reminded me of a conversation God once had with a man named Gideon:
“When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, ‘The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.’ … The Lord turned to him and said, ‘Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?’ ‘Pardon me, my lord,’ Gideon replied, ‘but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.’ The Lord answered, ‘I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.’”

If you read the full story, you’ll find that at this time, Gideon was hiding out. He also mentions being from the weakest clan, AND the least in his own family at that. Fortunately, God thinks differently than we do. He doesn’t call us according to who we are. He calls us INTO who we are DESTINED TO BE. Gideon was the furthest thing from a soldier when he was first called a “mighty warrior.” But God saw the man Gideon would become. And He knew how to get him there. All Gideon had to do was trust in God’s words and His process, and lean on God’s strength.
In the same way, we can help others develop into the people they were made to be. Sometimes we need to speak INTO people the things we see that they don’t yet see in themselves. And sometimes, all we need is the reminder that with God, anything is possible.
