COACHING 6 & 7 YEAR OLDS
Every summer break the athletes get a popsicle after each class or private. At the end of one of the 6 and 7 year old classes, they were standing in line to choose which flavor popsicle they would like. During one of the 6 year olds' turn, she just pointed and said, "That one!" I said, "Which one?" She again, pointed and said, "That one!" I said, "Honey, there are 3 different ones, so I don't know which one to give you unless you specifically tell me." The seven year old behind her said, "Yeah. You have to give him context." I said, " Wow! Look at you using that word correctly!" The 6 year old then says, "I'll take the blue one because I'm allergic to strawberries." (The red ones are strawberry flavored.) The same 7 year old immediately says, "I thought they were all artificial flavors." Once again, I was surprised at what she said, as that is not something a 7 year old would typically say. I said, "How old are you again!?! Are really an adult in a kid's body?" She giggled with a proud look on her face, and said, "No. I'm only 7." I said, "Well, you're one smart 7 year old!" I love these moments with the little ones! You just never know what they're going to say, and I'm here for it. 😊💚🖤⚡️
