Halau Pōhai Na Manu I Kealia Me Ho'okena Kumu Hula Pōhai originates from South Kona Hawaii. Kumu Hula Pōhai also studied under Kumu Hilda Keanaaina. Aloha! My name Pohai Kealoha Scharfman.

She graduated to the level of Kumu Hula under the leadership of Kumu Hula Ulalia Kaai Berman of the first uniki class of Kumu Hula Maiki Aiu Lake. Welcome to Pohai Kealoha School of Hawaiian Dance. I come from the island of Hawaii in the State of Hawaii. I am from the district of Kona in the fishing village of Hookena. I have been a Hula practitioner for most of my life. My hula journey began with

my Aunty Susan Pua of Ka'u. As I progressed I was taught basic hands and feet by Lanakila Brandt. My foundation comes from Kumu Hula Hilda Keanaaina of Kailua-Kona. Herself a student of Aunty Iolani Luahine. Upon completion of high school Aunty Hilda brought me to Kumu Hula Ulalia Kaai Berman,also from Kailua-Kona, with whom I continue my studies. After graduating high school I joined the Armed Forces and left the islands but never left hula. I performed throughout the Midwest and East coast. In 1995 I started Hula Halau o ke anuenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. However, I was forced to close the doors as my parents were ill and RI returned to Kona. I moved to Phoenix in 2001 and on occasion perform with Kaimikahu Hale O Hula, under the direction of Kaimikahu Mathews-Valdez. It's under the encouragement of my Kumu Ulalia Kaai Berman that I have opened this school. I have enjoyed every moment since opening and look forward to sharing what it is I know and continue to learn, with all who come in my doors. Come join me and lets make this journey together......

Halau Pōhai Na Manu I Keālia me Ho’okena is reopening her doors.

Due to COVID the halau has had to relocate, readjust and eventually remodel.

Most of our students were encouraged to attend classes with other Kumu Hula in the areas or even relocated themselves.

We have decided to rebuild the halau from the beginning. Small intimate classes ( 3 to 4) students a class but many classes.

Experience levels vary as well as ages. (We ask that babies are potty trained) The halau is located in NORTH PHOENIX in the DEER VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT.

Classes will be daily and times will vary. There will even be matinee classes on the weekends as well as morning classes.

A monthly fee of $40 will be collected. An adjustment will be made if more then one member of household attends classes. (Venmo/CashApp/Zelle)

Private, one on one classes are also available. Online classes will also be available. ( more information on that soon)

Hau’oli Makahikihou Na Haumana! 2020 has finally ended. Time for new beginnings! Halau is under reconstruction so I appreciate every one who has been patient.
We will be contacting returning Haumana and enrolling new and interested Haumana soon.
