After nearly 10 years of being immersed in gym culture you hear a lot of rationalizations as to why people wind up drinking the workout kool-aide. While many are entertaining, one of my favorites has to be “ I workout so I can eat whatever I want.

The spirit of that comment is cheeky and understandable, however the numbers just don’t add up.

If it is your goal to lose or maintain weight based on a calorie-in-calorie-out diet and you are not placIng AT LEAST as much effort into monitoring what you are putting into your body as you are with training it, your training progress will be an uphill battle. The old cliche is true; you simply cannot out work bad eating habits.

While I understand that you have to eat to survive, each food listed is an example of something common that can be easily sacrificed to help in your efforts towards reaching your goals.

The goal has to become bigger than the obstacle!
