Questions about what personal training certification to get come up often in our Facebook group.

While there are a ton of different considerations and nuances, I created this guide to help people have a little clarity on what their initial training education investment looks like across the bigger names in the industry as of 2025.

What are some other ones you recommend FOR NEW trainers and why?

COACH CENSUS

It's that time of year again: reflection.

I started an annual coaching census that isn't linked to any specific organization or company last year.

This came from the unfortunate fact that no organizations care to follow up with people's professional success(es) or obstacles because most companies don't connect their education offerings to the company's profitability (and frankly doesn't reflect well on most program outcomes when measured).

I publish the industry standards and norms using the information you share at the end of January on a "state of the industry" address on Thursday, Jan 30 at 4p.

Please, please, PLEASE, take the 10 minutes to complete the following census so I can continue to bring what our industry is doing from a financial and education performance perspective!

Apparently training until failure isn't necessary for everyone, and two 30-minute sessions can help experienced lifters still continue to grow muscle!

What are your thoughts??

Finding out you have a page after not using it for years feels the same feels the same as finding money after laundry 😂

COACHES-

Answering questions with “it depends” and leaving it at that for your clients is plain lazy coaching.

Ask them more questions so you can give them a clearer answer or tell them you don’t know and find the answer for them!

Y’all already know that “new year, new me” s**t is coming, which means most of the fitness and nutrition businesses are about to ramp up their offers!

Consumers should be aware of what to look for and what to avoid when shopping for a professional!

Make sure that you do your due diligence and find a coach that has the right stuff to help you have the effect you want while being able to enjoy the process.

Look for professionals who are comfortable with what they know and are able to admit what they don’t.

🚩 if they don’t ask you tons of questions
🚩 if they try to hard close you
🚩 if they don’t offer a framework of a long-term plan
🚩 if they feel off or like they don’t get along the best with your communication style

What are some red flags you look for when hiring a coach?

The experiences immediately preceding new information will completely alter how that information is perceived.

Framing is a term used to describe the process of creating context for information.

The principle is thought to help support a point.

It can be argued that the circumstances are then more powerful than the actual information.

Frame carefully, my persuasive pals 👌
