Johnson (Oz) is a retired 20-year veteran of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to his Law Enforcement career, he served for 10 years in the United States Military. In 1983 Oz enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 101st Airborne Division as an Infantry Sniper. Oz spent most of his Army career deployed to South East Asia. ited States Air Force for 6 years as a Combat Medical Evacuation Technician. During this time Oz deployed to the first Gulf War during Desert Shield / Desert Storm. In 1995 Oz was hired by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Phoenix, Arizona. After a few years as a Deputy Sheriff he became qualified through P.O.S.T. (Police Officers Training and Standards) as a General Instructor. Shortly thereafter he became certified by the same agency to instruct in Fi****ms, Rifles and Building Clearing. Oz spent 7 years assigned to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team. During this assignment he was the Lead Tactical Instructor for the SWAT Team and held the position of Team Leader. In 2014 Oz developed and was the lead Instructor in the 2014 Maricopa County Regional SWAT School. This two-week intermediate SWAT school was a new concept to the Arizona Tactical Community. Oz brought instructors from five Arizona police agencies and 3 civilian instructors together to teach during the school. 40 students from agencies across the State of Arizona to include the Military attended the 2-week School. Oz Johnson has been involved with fi****ms and tactics for most of his adult life. He is dedicated in the instruction of fi****ms and tactics involving fi****ms and building clearing. Oz centers all his training around shaping the tactical mindset of the student over the weapon. Oz Johnson has been involved in several critical incidents during his career in the military and law enforcement, he is very qualified to teach fi****ms, tactics and the mindset needed to survive such incidents.
