Arizona Karate Association

Arizona Karate Association This is the AKA dojo page. Welcome! Start a discussion! Upload some of those karate pictures! But Arizona Karate Association was founded in 1961.

Shotokan is a traditional Japanese style martial art; we trace our lineage to Master Gichin Funakoshi, who is recognized as the founder of modern-day karate. Sensei Koyama came to the United States in 1964 and has been teaching here ever since. We are affiliated with the Japan Karate Association/World Federation America. Our dojo is the Central headquarters of the Western Region. Our karate is des

igned to be lifelong exercise. It is not only for the young and athletic. The members of our dojo range in age from five to over seventy-five. We are athletes, former athletes, and former couch potatoes! Regular training develops physical strength and flexibility, improves health, and relieves stress. Our young members especially have a lot of fun! In our everyday training, we aim to create a positive and respectful environment that develops self-discipline, mental focus, and overall health. The ultimate aim of our karate is to seek perfection of character and to embody the dojo kun (dojo principles) in every aspect of our lives.
