Really excited and humbled to join an outstanding group of tiers at the HMH Vices table at the S**o Bay Tackle Show (Dunegrass Country Club) today. If you have any tying questions, stop by and ask Nathan Wight, Shaun Baggitt, Craig Uecker, Jonathan Larrabee. If you have any questions about your comment to the ASMFC regarding Amendment 7 to the Striped Bass Management Plan (due April 15), I'll be glad to help.

"This is an amazing opportunity to improve several facets of management, leading to more striped bass in the water in the future. Today, striped bass are overfished, subject to overfishing (according to the most recent stock assessment), and at a 25-year low. It’s going to take all of us acting together if we want to improve striped bass management and restore the stock to abundant, healthy levels."

With the public comment deadline for Amendment 7 for Striped Bass looming on the horizon, Capt. Kyle Schaefer checked in with Hatch Magazine to break down what's at stake and how you can get involved!

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council will hold five public hearings and accept written comments regarding an action intended to rebuild the Atlantic mackerel stock (also known as the Atlantic Mackerel Rebuilding 2.0 Amendment). Potential management measures include commercial quotas, recreational bag limits, a 3-inch commercial minimum mesh requirement, and permitting clarifications. The action would also continue to set a river herring and shad catch cap for the mackerel fishery. A public hearing document with additional details will be available on the amendment page about two weeks prior to the first hearing.

Comments may be submitted at any of the five public hearings between April 25, 2022 and May 2, 2022 or in writing by May 9, 2022. See below for additional details.

Attention Maine striped bass fans...Amendment 7 public meetings are now posted. Most of us don't circle dates on calendars anymore, so do whatever you do to put March 23 on your schedule. Our striped bass fishery needs YOUR voice. This is the big push to the finish line for the framework that will guide striped bass management for the next 10 to 20 years (not however the last time that you need to be involved). Maine's meeting will be held via webinar so you don't need to travel to participate. You aren't limited to attending your home state's meeting, so if you aren't available on March 23, pick one of the other dates that will be held remotely. Resources to help you speak up will follow.
