70 Years of Great Design Styles (1885-1955): Devereux Emmet (1898)

In 1898, Devereux Emmet staked out Garden City Golf Club on Long Island, creating one of America’s earliest and most sophisticated inland layouts. With elegant bunkering, subtle contours, and thoughtful strategic routing, he set a new standard for American golf that moved beyond mere penal hazards toward pure playing interest.

That same refined strategic world lives on at The Architects Golf Club. Hole 4 delivers Devereux Emmet’s graceful inland strategy, with sweeping fairways and precise bunkering that reward smart positioning and finesse.

Pure Emmet elegance, then and now.

Step onto Hole 4 and feel the thoughtful precision that made Devereux Emmet a pioneer of strategic American golf. 🏆⛳

Big news for the 2026 season at The Architects!

We’ve just rolled out a full fleet of brand-new E-Z-GO Elite GPS carts loaded with Pace Technology, massive touchscreens, Bluetooth streaming, and premium lithium-ion batteries. No more guessing yardages. No more dead carts on the back nine.

We also upgraded the driving range with premium hitting mats, poured the foundation for a brand-new concession stand, and our robot range picker is keeping the range pristine.

Plus — golf architecture fans will love this — we meticulously restored the iconic 11-bunker complex on Hole 11. Every contour and flash of sand is back to its original glory. William Flynn would be proud.

If you love strategic, beautiful golf with modern comforts, now is the time to play The Architects.
