Philadelphia Youth Basketball

Philadelphia Youth Basketball One Mission. One Vision. One Decade. We want to help Philadelphia’s young people reach their full potential as students, as athletes, and as leaders.

Philadelphia Youth Basketball (PYB) is a nonprofit youth development organization building safe spaces for young people to learn, grow, and lead — on and off the court. We are a passionate, diverse, and committed group of organizers and investors who have come together to build a premiere, basketball-based youth development center in the heart of North Philadelphia. We believe that when you create

opportunities for young people to develop their potential as students, athletes, and responsible engaged citizens, the individual and the community will thrive. The facility’s programming will include a carefully blended mix of athletic, academic, health, leadership, and character development activities. Tutoring, organizational skills, SAT/ACT prep, nutrition, sports medicine, community service, and civic engagement opportunities are examples of development programming we will offer.

Thank you to our partners at Deloitte for spending with PYB at The Alan Horwitz “Sixth Man” Center! 💙

Our staff team spent a full day connecting, learning, collaborating, and reflecting alongside Deloitte volunteers. We started with breakfast and welcome remarks, then moved into on-court team-building, learning about Business Chemistry, and workshops focused on networking, personal purpose, and meaningful connections.

At PYB, our impact on young people is powered by the strength of the team behind it. Deloitte’s gave our growing staff time to connect, learn, reflect, and build together, strengthening the culture and collaboration that carry our mission forward.

Thank you, Deloitte, for being part of the PYB family and for making a real impact in the community!

Two years ago, we officially opened the Alan Horwitz “Sixth Man” Center by hosting our first-ever tournament.

Since then, this space has become so much more than a facility. When you turn onto PYB Way from Wissahickon Avenue, you’ll find a vibrant community hub where young people, families, coach-mentors, partners, and neighbors gather to play, learn, grow, celebrate, and lead.

We are grateful to everyone who has helped bring this vision to life and to everyone who sees the Sixth Man Center as their community hub.

Thank you for making this place feel like home!

Last week, PYB hosted Game Plans and Great Minds inside the Cohen Family Civic Dialogue Arena, bringing young professionals, civic leaders, and community partners together for a meaningful conversation with Richard Green of Firstrust Bank and Stan Middleman of Freedom Mortgage.

The evening explored philanthropy, business, mentorship, leadership, and giving back. It also showed what The Alan Horwitz "Sixth Man" Center, Powered & Operated by PYB was built to be: a hub for community dialogue, connection, and partnership-powered impact.

At PYB, basketball is the cultural connector, but the ecosystem is much bigger. The Sixth Man Center creates space for people, ideas, and opportunities to come together in service of Philadelphia’s future.

Corporate leaders, let’s build what’s next together! Partner with PYB to host meaningful conversations, engage your team, and make real community impact. Send us a message to get started!

Before the 2nd Annual Roots Picnic Celebrity Basketball Game, our PYB Academy young leaders had the opportunity to play on the Adelman Family Stadium Court, and they showed exactly what they’ve been building all year!

Moments like this matter: they create access, expand exposure, and open opportunity. Most importantly, they give young people a platform to demonstrate the skill sets and mindsets they are developing through PYB: communication, teamwork, accountability, resilience, and leadership.

At PYB, basketball is the cultural connector and the optimal environment for growth. What our young leaders showed on that court was bigger than basketball. They showed confidence, preparation, and most importantly, PYB pride!

We are incredibly proud of our Academy teams for representing themselves, their families, their communities, and PYB with such joy and purpose.

What an unforgettable evening in the Cohen Family Civic Dialogue Arena on Monday!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Landscapes of Freedom: Black History in the Philadelphia Landscape, a powerful conversation with author Amy Cohen and Bernyce DeVaughn, Kenneth Salaam, and Karen Jordan, members of the Cecil B. Moore Philadelphia Freedom Fighters.

To hear directly from leaders whose courage helped shape Philadelphia’s freedom work was a gift! Their stories reminded us that history is not distant. It lives in our neighborhoods, our families, our institutions, and the young people who will carry this work forward.

At PYB, we believe civic dialogue is part of youth development. Our space is built for moments like this, where generations come together to listen, learn, reflect, and see themselves as part of Philadelphia’s ongoing story of justice, leadership, and community-led change.

We are deeply grateful to Amy Jane Cohen, the Freedom Fighters, and our community for helping make this evening possible.
