Meet our newest Retro Pilates Apprentice Instructor, Tara!

Tara will be teaching discounted Apprentice drop-in Mat classes beginning this week! Catch her Monday 7,8,9am in May and select Wednesdays and Saturdays. Members can use their existing memberships/packages or supplement it by purchasing an Apprentice Drop-in for $28 available on the Retro Pilates app!

Learn a bit more about Tara below!

1. What first got you groovin’ into being a Pilates instructor? "I’ve always loved movement. I started with running, then got into lifting and yoga, but when I found Pilates, something really clicked. It made me feel strong, aligned, and connected in a completely different way. I realized how powerful mindful movement can be, not just physically but mentally too, and I wanted to help others experience that same feeling."

2. What’s your favorite Pilates move and why? "The Hundred, she’s iconic 💅 It wakes everything up, gets your core fired, and instantly puts you in that “I got this” mindset. When you’re locked in and breathing through it… that’s main character energy."

3. How do you unwind after a long day of teaching? "I’ll grab a coffee or tea depending on the time of day, catch up on messages, or just mindlessly scroll for a bit. It’s my way of decompressing and resetting before the next thing."

4. Favorite Retro playlist song right now? "Anything mid to late 90’s… that era does not miss. So many iconic artists, it just depends on the vibe that day."

5. What can people expect from your class? "A challenging but supportive class. I want you to feel pushed, but never overwhelmed. My goal is for you to walk out feeling stronger, taller, and genuinely good… like your best self.😊"

Introducing Retro Pilates Apprentice Instructor, Liz Mak! 🤩

Liz first joined Retro Pilates as a client back in August 2023 and now in April 2026 is joining the instructor team! 👏

1. What inspired you to become a Pilates instructor?
"I saw how Pilates changed the relationship that my loved ones had with their bodies for the better. I love the mind-body connection that a consistent Pilates practice cultivates and I want to help others discover and develop that, too!"

2. What’s your favorite Pilates move and why?
"Snake/twist always feels like such a rewarding challenge... and I adore how all the splits make me feel afterward." 🐍

3. How do you unwind after a long day of teaching?
"Never underestimate the power of a shower + moisturizer. Makes me feel like a new person every time. Then I curl up with my princess of a cat, Ginny." 🧖🏻‍♀️🐱

4.What's a throwback song that always gets you moving?
"Rumour Has It by Donna Summer! And anything she did with Giorgio Moroder, honestly." 🎶

5. What can people expect from your class?
"Expect a fun and challenging class with plenty of room for modifications. I want people to feel proud of the hard work they put in with me!"

Cathy started out as a Retro Pilates client in September in 2023 and is becoming a dedicated Pilates Instructor now herself!!

1) What inspired you to become a Pilates instructor?
"I have a continuous curiosity for all things fitness, but a special interest in Pilates. I wanted to dial in on my practice, and find ways to use Pilates to enhance my own health as well as others. I just love to move, and Pilates is one of the best modes of movement!"

2. What's your favorite Pilates exercise that makes you feel like a Pilates rockstar?
"Short Spine Massage on reformer or tower never disappoints, anything to make my spine happy"

3. How do you stay groovy after teaching?
"I love getting outdoors even if it's a simple scenic walk"

4. What's a throwback song that always gets you moving?
"Anything 2000's, Britney"

5. How would you describe your teaching style?
"My clients often describe my sessions as supportive, challenging, and fun"

Introducing Retro Pilates Apprentice Instructor, Maddie Gebert! ☀

Maddie has taken nearly 500 classes with us since first joining our Retro Fam in April 2022!! Fast forward 4 years and she is about to be an instructor herself!! We love a full circle moment!

You can catch her teaching discounted Apprentice Drop-In Classes on Thursdays at 6 + 7pm and select Saturdays at 11am + 12pm through April + May!

Let's give one of our own a warm welcome and get to know more about Maddie below:

1) What first got you groovin’ into being a Pilates instructor?
"I loved attending classes and no matter the style of class, difficulty, or early wake up call, I always found myself repeating “I never regret going”. As I retired from my lacrosse career post undergrad, I had a hard time finding a form of exercise I wanted to keep showing up at. I always feel better keeping my body moving, and I never felt better than after a Pilates class."

2. What’s your favorite Pilates move and why?
"around the world! After a long day crouching over excel sheets, my back is craving it! My rockstar move has to be airplane. I love the feeling of the full body control."

3. How do you unwind after a long day of teaching?
I rely on a (very short) walk with my bulldog Pippa and a few stretch and folds to make some pizza for my boyfriend and biggest supporter Ben!

4. What's a throwback song that always gets you moving?
Any and all ABBA will get me up and moving!!! Nothing can put a smile on my face faster!

5. What can people expect from your class/ how would you describe your teaching style?
I love to provide room to challenge. I want everyone to leave my class feeling a sense of accomplishment. If I can encourage you to try a new move, variation, extra rep, or whatever makes you feel better, I think I did my job.
