While BOA doesn’t express any political views, we feel it is important to keep everyone abreast of how politics has infiltrated the outdoor life. Specifically fishing. The state waters are not affected but federal waters are affected .

SPECIAL NOTE: The injunction only applies to Atlantic fisheries. The Gulf of America is not included in the injunction.

Below is an article that is informing and enlightening.

John Bedsole / Bedsole Outdoor Adventures LLC

One of the strangest alliances in modern wildlife policy is unfolding right now over Atlantic red snapper.

Commercial fishing interests have teamed up with radical groups like Environmental Defense Fund, Ocean Conservancy, and Earthjustice in federal court to block expanded recreational red snapper seasons for everyday anglers.

The commercial industry wants to protect quota allocations and market share. Preservation groups want tighter harvest restrictions overall. Recreational anglers are caught in the middle.

Florida anglers were set to receive a historic 39 day Atlantic red snapper season after NOAA approved state managed harvest programs. Instead, a federal injunction shut the season down just one day before opening.

Governor Ron DeSantis summed up what many anglers believe is really happening when he said, “They don’t want recreational anglers to be able to go out and fish. They want it all for themselves.”

Commercial fishing interests may not realize that teaming up with radical preservation groups today could eventually come back on them as well. Many of these same organizations openly support tighter restrictions on commercial harvests too.
