Miller leads Tippecanoe Valley to Leaning Tree Invitational Win
Sophomore Savana Miller shot a one over 37 to lead her Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings to victory in the second annual Leaning Tree High School Girls Invitational on Thursday evening at Leaning Tree Golf Course on Grissom Aeroplex. It was a close battle as only 17 strokes separated the four teams with Tipp Valley scoring 194, followed by Maconaquah (200), North Miami (205) and Kokomo (211).
Miller held her composure after struggling with a triple bogey on the par 3 number 2 hole a string of pars coupled with birdies on the par 4 number 4 hole and par 5 finishing hole earned her medalist honors. Maconaquah’s Aubrey Stoll carded a 41 for second individually, with Laney Musall of North Miami taking the tiebreaker over Kokomo’s Avery Stiner for third and fourth place at 46s. Another tiebreaker came into play between Mia Drake of Kokomo and North Miami’s Bryanne Sturch with Drake getting the fifth-place medallion with her 50.
Joining Miller, on the winning Lady Vikings team were Jenna Prater (51), Maris Overbey (52), Gentry Bouse (54) and last year’s Junior Varsity medalist Brystol Sands at 55.
Kokomo’s Emily Bianco was medalist in the Junior Varsity division with 47 followed by Maci Parker’s 53 from Tipp Valley and Kokomo’s Lucy Goad’s 54. One stroke decided the Junior Varsity team title with Kokomo edging Tipp Valley 239 to 240.
Following a remembrance and moment of silence honoring 9/11, honorary starter Captain Sara Dahl greeted the players during introductions in opening ceremonies.
