This is Dennis.

As some of you have already seen, the USBC Youth bowling world lost a key contributor this past weekend in a tragic auto accident in Texas. Zach Barton and his wife Katie were killed on Sunday evening.

If you've been involved in anything Youth on the elite side, from Collegiate, to USA Bowling, to Junior Gold, you've had the benefit of Zach's expertise at some point. You've likely interacted with him on the phone at HQ if you had a Youth question.

Zach was the team lead for the group I work with at Junior Gold. He managed the U16 Boys Lucky Strike Lakeside location in Minneapolis this year, and the U18 Boys AMF Thunderbowl location in Detroit last year. Our team is very tight, and it was such a pleasure to watch him work in those settings. Fair, firm with the rules, but always with a smile on his face. He was an expert in tournament implementation, dare I say irreplaceable. He was my friend.

Gone at the young age of 39 years, Zach and Katie leave behind two daughters, ages 5 and 4. Each year at Junior Gold, we would celebrate his younger daughter's birthday because it happened while he was working. We'd have cake in the office, and our tournament group would be her family, singing to her. For many of us, USBC truly is family. This loss will be noticed for years to come.

Congratulations to Bennett Burkhardt from St. Louis on an outstanding performance at the 2026 USBC Junior Gold Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Bennett started the week competing in the U14 Boys Division, with more than 385 bowlers taking their shot at making it through a tough four days of qualifying. When qualifying was finished, Bennett had put together a solid performance, finishing 39th with a total pinfall of 2,948, which gave him a 184.2 average.

But Bennett wasn’t done yet.

The field was cut to 55 bowlers for the Advancers Round, and Bennett came out ready to make a move. After five more games, he had climbed all the way up to 29th place, earning his spot in the Final Advancers Round with the top 36 bowlers.

Once again, Bennett went back to work.

Over the next five games, he continued to fight his way up the standings, moving into 20th place with a total pinfall of 4,959. And just when he needed it most, Bennett finished with a pair of big games, rolling a 258 followed by a 264.

He finished the Advancers Round averaging 190.7 and had put himself within striking distance of the match-play cut.

Unfortunately, the top 16 bowlers advanced, and Bennett came up just 22 pins short of making match play.

While the final result may not have been what Bennett was hoping for, there is a lot to be proud of. He kept moving up the standings, finished the tournament strong, and most importantly, never gave up.

Bennett bowled a fantastic tournament and represented himself and Missouri bowling extremely well.

🎳 Congratulations again, Bennett, on an outstanding Junior Gold performance! We can’t wait to see where your bowling takes you next.

In her final match, Addison faced Layna Linker in another close contest. The two-game match came down to just four pins, with Addison falling 364–360.

Addison bowled great throughout the tournament. She came just short of advancing to the finals but finished in a tie for 9th place among some of the best U18 girls in the country.
