**COLLECTING ANIMAL ITEMS**
Hey guys, I am in contact with an animal rescue based out of Temecula. They are looking to transport 100 animals from LA. They desperately need animal crates and a trailer to go pick up the animals.
After that they will need everything...food, bowls, towels, blankets, toys, etc.. If you have stuff you wish to donate please reach out to me. If you are local then I'll be at the dz this weekend to collect items.
If you are not local and would like to ship items or send a delivery, ship to me at 215 W. Limited Ave., Lake Elsinore CA 92530. (give me the heads up if you are doing this), I can unpackage and deliver.

Nuestros diversos orígenes y pasión nos impulsan a dar forma al futuro de nuestro deporte.

Con la tecnología, estamos más conectados que nunca. Es crucial que no sólo seamos eficaces y eficientes sino también accesibles y transparentes.

Nuestro trabajo es:
- Políticas de elaboración para paracaidistas, zonas de descenso e instructores.
- Asegúrese de que sus inquietudes sean escuchadas y atendidas.
- Supervisar la seguridad, el crecimiento y los servicios a los miembros.
- Impulsar iniciativas de seguridad y formación. - Abogar por el paracaidismo ante la FAA.
- Promocionar y apoyar a nuestros miembros en competiciones tanto nacionales como internacionales.

En mis 18 meses como Director Nacional, ayudé a crear un programa educativo de canopy para nuevos instructores de tándem, mejoramos de tarjeta de Licencia A&B y contribuí a la reescritura de SIM.

Participo activamente en comités clave y apoyo la ampliación de nuestras funciones para incluir representantes internacionales compuestos por sus directores nacionales, supervisando nuestro 25% de membresía internacional.

Feeling gutted after the news of our beautiful Dev., she was quite literally one of the most real, kind, humble, goofy as and loving people I have ever encountered. You know…the kind of person that when you meet you are like, YEA, I want to be around you! ABSOLUTELY CONTAGIOUS. She was an old soul and had an astounding presence. This world is cruel and unfair. The only thing I can really say right now is that I am honored to have been able to call Devrey my friend. This cuts deep. 💔

We are deeply saddened to share the news of a tragic accident involving one of our beloved tandem instructors, Devrey LaRiccia who passed away, and a student who is currently in critical condition.

Our hearts go out to their families and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Below is a formal press release addressing the incident.

On Friday, August 2nd, at approximately 2:30 PM PST, emergency personnel were called to Perris Valley Airport following a serious accident involving a tandem skydiving instructor and their student.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tandem pair experienced a normal free fall and parachute deployment. All aspects of the equipment and skydive were normal without any reported issues until the landing sequence. While preparing for landing, the tandem pair encountered disturbed air known as a "dust devil." This sudden turbulence caused a hard landing for both individuals.

Both were rushed to Inland Valley Hospital in Wildomar with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the instructor has been pronounced dead. The current medical status of the student is critical.

The identity of the student will not be released until all family members have been informed.
The skydiving community is small and tight-knit, and yesterday’s tragic loss has profoundly affected the Skydive Perris community. The instructor was a cherished member of our team, passionate about introducing others to the sport of skydiving. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of both the instructor and student.

No further information will be released pending the results of a full investigation.

Safety has always been our top priority at Skydive Perris, and we remain committed to ensuring the well-being of our community. In honor of those affected, we will be taking a brief pause on our social media activities.

What is the FAA medical and how does it affect the skydiving community?
We can all agree that tandem skydiving is the lifeblood of most drop zones. It keeps the props turning and the lights on!
Currently, to be a Tandem Instructor, one must have and maintain a current FAA medical. This requirement is imposed on the USA tandem industry by the USPA and dates back to when we petitioned the FAA to allow tandem operations.
Reasons why an FAA Medical could be denied or revoked include:
- Having taken medication at any point in your life for anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, or diabetes.
- Having a history of substance abuse or alcoholism, including having received treatment or having ever gotten a DUI.
- Self-reporting having ever seen a mental health professional.
The above can disqualify reputable people, including members of our armed forces, anyone who has received related medication at any point in their lifetime, and anyone who has been convicted of a related crime, regardless of how long ago it was. It also discourages instructors from seeking mental health care for fear of losing their medical certification.
We need an alternative to the FAA medical. Ray Lallo has taken the lead on this extensive project and has proposed a medical form that could be completed by a primary physician, which includes a mental health check.
We pride ourselves on self-policing, and this is one of the items that is within our power to change. Doing it the right way and getting the blessing of the FAA by proposing an alternative is the route we are currently taking.
I am running for re-election as your USPA National Director, with voting taking place in October 2024.
My commitment is to ensure that we create a fair and safe environment for all tandem instructors. I will advocate for policies that prioritize mental health and do not penalize those who have sought help.
I promise to always vote in favor of progressive changes to this conflicting issue and to always help in the efforts in finding an alternative to the FAA medical!
I hope to have your support in October! We need a BOD that will help push this initiative along in order to keep our skydiving community thriving.
