Public Statement from Lotus Club Fight & Fitness
The Jiu Jitsu community is currently facing a difficult and necessary reckoning surrounding allegations of sexual misconduct involving a prominent figure in the sport. While these conversations are uncomfortable, they are vital.
At Lotus Club Fight & Fitness, we believe it’s important to address not only individual behavior, but the broader culture that allows harm to occur. Too often, these issues are rooted in environments built around hero worship — where instructors are placed on pedestals, authority goes unquestioned, and rank is mistaken for character. A black belt represents technical proficiency, not moral superiority, and when idolization replaces accountability, people get hurt.
Our academy has never been built on inflated titles, resumes, or ego. We are firmly against the culture of idolizing coaches simply because of rank. At Lotus Club, we know our coaches by their names, not titles. Respect is earned through consistent action, integrity, and how we treat one another — not through belts or status.
We are committed to fostering a safe, healthy, and empowering environment for everyone, especially women, to train without fear, pressure, or exploitation. Lotus Club Fight & Fitness maintains a zero-tolerance policy for sexual misconduct, abuse of authority, harassment, or boundary violations of any kind. Any behavior that compromises the safety or dignity of our members will be addressed immediately and decisively.
Safety is not a statement — it’s a daily practice. It lives in clear boundaries, open communication, mutual accountability, and a team culture where concerns are taken seriously and voices are heard.
Our mission is self-development, not hero creation. We exist to support our members in becoming the best versions of themselves through discipline, humility, and community. We believe a strong academy is one that cares more about its people than the résumés of its coaches, and more about collective growth than individual recognition.
Lotus Club is, and will continue to be, a place where everyone belongs, everyone is respected, and everyone is protected — as we work together as a community.
