As part of the Peoria Park District's ongoing stewardship of Newman Golf Course, staff conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on the stump carving to help preserve it for future generations.
During one of these scheduled maintenance activities, staff identified a condition affecting the stump that requires restoration. To preserve the original artwork, the carved portion will be carefully removed, restored, re-stained, and resealed before being reinstalled in its current location on a new permanent concrete base. The new base will provide a durable, long-term foundation while maintaining the carving's location and appearance.
The Peoria Park District is committed to preserving this meaningful community artwork through proactive care and thoughtful restoration. We appreciate the community's patience while this work is completed and look forward to returning the restored carving to Newman Golf Course.
