More from the 48th SAE National Amateur Golf Tournament - This was a weekend of brotherhood. Yes, we kept score and awarded trophies, but we cheered every good shot, laughed at the not so good ones, and stayed away from the alligators! We ate meals together, huddled inside from the weather, shared stories, and got to know each other better.
We sang “Friends“ at the end, and one of my brothers said “I felt like we were back in chapter, 50 years ago!” Yes, our fraternal bond is timeless. Yes, we are young and older, all at the same time. And YES, ΦΑ’s light shines bright in all of us. Every time we gather, we re-ignite the flame.
May the touch of a brother's hand never fail to awaken in you a growing sense of the solemn obligations of Friendship and fill your hearts with undying zeal and devotion for your cherished Fraternity. Or the cherished love of our brothers.

The 48th Anniversary SAE National Amateur Golf Tournament is in the books! The weather turned sunny and cool (but very breezy) for Saturday’s play, and we all had a great time - just look at those smiling brothers! The tournament is played in three flights, Minerva (for low handicap), DeVotie (mid handicap), and Levere (for the rest of us). This way, players of all skill levels compete with a chance of winning. We also had Longest Drive and Closest to the pin for each day. The final results are listed below.

Minerva Flight
1st: Sandy Brasher, Mark Orr
2nd: Barry Landry, Ryan Miller

Devotie Flight
1st: Mike Davis, Raymond Bradley
2nd: Lance Fulton, Ryan Prior

Levere Flight:
1st: Dan Stanczak, Sam Morgan
2nd: Ken Jernigan, John Pilcher

Brothers, we are through the first round of golf in the 48th anniversary tournament. It has been very rainy and wet for Friday’s action, but we remain undeterred. The Friday night fish fry bolstered everyone to look forward to hopefully better conditions tomorrow. Funny thing about rainy and foul weather, it concentrates us to huddle in together inside our hospitality room, sharing stories and catching up with brothers we haven’t seen in a while. And, isn’t that the essence of brotherhood? We care enough to keep up with brothers’ families, careers, and of course golf scores! Thank you to all our sponsors, especially the SAE Foundation, for helping bring this year’s tournament to life.
Saturday is the second round, a two man scramble. It‘s not as easy as it sounds - Perdido has a LOT of water, and plenty of ways for your shot to go crazy bad; it‘s best to play carefully, and pick your time to make that “hero” shot! See you bright and early, and Hit ‘em Straight!
