Why #47?

It's a really good question. If you ask race car drivers how they picked their numbers, you might get a cool backstory...

For Lucas, the number 47 has been handed down through the generations.

Papa T, Lucas' great grandpa, started off the family racing for Nick (dad) and Lucas. Papa was born in 1947 and drove the #47 race car before ultimately changing his car number to #86.

When Nick started racing dwarf cars as a teenager with Papa, naturally his car was #47. Even as he got older, when he purchased his own stock car, Nick continued to run the #47.

Note: The number 47 isn't just a car number - it's what some people might call a lucky number, or even an angel number. It's the one number that has followed the members of the Bonham family throughout the years, showing up in the most random places and more than you would consider coincidental.

So when Lucas was given his first race car, his beginner outlaw kart, he was given a choice of running the #47, the #86 or choosing his own number. If you know Lucas, you know that family means everthing to him - of course, he chose to use the #47 to carry on the tradition and honor his dad and his Papa.

It's more than just a number - it's a family legacy.

Last night was a learning day for our team.

Our goals right now are πŸ‘ seat time and set up. Get the laps in and get the car right so next season, we're practiced and prepared.

Lucas did a great job last night. Qualifying was awesome - for his first time out during a race at Delta, he didn't qualify last! and he turned some good laps.

The heat race was more about figuring out the set up and Lucas navigating a car that didn't want to stay on the bottom.

The A-main saw Lucas running really good laps in the middle of sometimes groups of 6 to 7 cars, holding his line when the leaders passed and just running his race. Ultimately he got sucked up to the wall and had a small flip with 8 laps to go.

Obviously, after just fixing the car, a wreck was not what we were hoping for.

However, our drive made us proud with the amount of focus he showed. He's also become quite the communicator with Dad/ Crew Chief and has been able to accurately describe what he's feeling to help us make set up changes in the right direction.

What does it take to drive a race car?

Words like bravery, grit, determination and focus come to mind.

But the truth is, it takes support - support from a dad who works long hours and late nights in the garage/shop to get the micro ready, support from a sister who cheers the loudest in the stands, and support from family and friends who sponsor and donate and follow along with every social media post.

Lucas is ready to hit the track in Stockton tonight. ❀️ Thanks for your support.

From this πŸ‘‡earlier this year, learning how to start his Micro Sprint...

To running a race this weekend at Delta Speedway.

We know races are won in the shop, but races are also won with lots of practice, grit, determination and perseverance.

One big wreck behind him, one newly fixed race car to run. Lucas is ready! πŸ€™
