Six years ago today I had to undergo a double mastectomy 😭. These memories are hard.
I hate remembering that the only way to get the tumors out was to amputate a part of my body. A reminder, not just in memories, but every time I look at myself in the mirror.
Surgery….chemo….9 more surgeries I never knew I would have to face… so many health issues.
So many things I would have to let go of 💔
I had to close the gym and say goodbye to a life I had worked so hard to build. So many pieces of my old life that I never got back. A woman and a life I still grieve 😭
BUT YET…look at what was born from all of it.
A marriage that is stronger than ever. Children and family who have carried me, loved me, and stood beside me. A strength I didn’t know I had.
A nonprofit that was born from my own cancer journey so I could turn my pain into purpose and help other fighters feel a little less alone.
Six years later, I still cry, still hate the scars and still mourn what cancer took from me and brought on, but I can also be incredibly grateful for what it gave me. Purpose, strength, a deeper appreciation for the people I love.
And most importantly…
I’M HERE.
I’m strong.
And I’m still fighting. 🩷
If I could go back and hold that woman’s hand, I would tell her:
“You have no idea how much you’re going to endure… but you also have no idea how strong you’re going to become.” 🙏🏻🩷
