Fans often remember Elvis for the voice, the looks and those unforgettable performances.

But there was another side of Elvis that meant just as much to many people:

His generosity.

Over the years, countless stories have been told about Elvis helping people who were struggling, supporting charities and giving away money or expensive gifts — sometimes simply because he saw someone who needed help.

He famously gave away cars, jewelry and cash. But what makes many of these stories so touching is that Elvis knew what it was like to have very little.

He had grown up in a poor family in Tupelo, Mississippi. Long before Graceland, Cadillacs and sold-out concerts, Elvis understood what it meant to live without much money.

Perhaps that's one reason generosity became such an important part of the Elvis story.

We shouldn't turn every story about his giving into legend without checking the facts. But there is plenty of evidence that Elvis could be extraordinarily generous with what his success had given him.

The world remembers the King of Rock ’n’ Roll.

His fans also remember the man with the giving heart.

Do you think your music will stand the test of time?

Nearly 50 years after his death, we already know part of the answer.

His records are still played. His performances are still watched. Elvis festivals and tribute shows continue around the world. Fans who grew up with him are still here — and people born decades after 1977 are discovering him for the first time.

Elvis couldn't have known exactly what his legacy would become.

Could he have imagined a world where people carried thousands of songs on a phone, yet still chose to play “Hound Dog,” “Suspicious Minds,” “If I Can Dream,” or “Can’t Help Falling in Love”?

Maybe the most remarkable answer isn't something Elvis ever said.

It's what his fans are still doing.

They kept listening.

And generation after generation, the music keeps finding another audience.

On June 26, 1977, Elvis performed what no one in the audience knew would become his final concert, at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis.

And the last song of the night was one that had closed so many Elvis concerts before:

“Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

At the time, it was simply the familiar ending to another Elvis show.

But today, knowing that Elvis would never perform another concert, the words carry a completely different weight.

Thousands of people walked out of that arena believing they had just seen Elvis Presley.

Only later would they realize they had heard The King sing his final song onstage.

Less than two months later, Elvis was gone.

Can you imagine what it must feel like today to know you were there for Elvis’s final “Can’t Help Falling in Love”?

Concerts were still a major part of Elvis’s life in the 1970s. Night after night, thousands of people bought tickets expecting to see The King — the voice, the charisma, the excitement and the larger-than-life performer they had loved for years.

But as his health became more troubled, delivering that kind of performance became increasingly difficult.

Imagine the pressure.

Elvis wasn't simply walking onto a stage as a singer. He was walking out as Elvis Presley, carrying decades of expectations with him.

For a man whose identity had been tied to performing since he was barely out of his teens, stepping away may not have been emotionally simple either. The stage was where he had received some of the greatest love of his life.

Looking back, it's difficult not to wish that somewhere along the way someone could have said:

“Elvis, you don't owe us another concert. Go home. Rest. Take care of yourself. We'll still love you.” ❤️

His fans wanted to see him.

But knowing what we know today, perhaps what he needed most was time away from being The King.

Maybe it came through an old radio in the 1950s. Maybe someone in your family brought home an Elvis record. Perhaps you first heard him on television, in a movie, at a dance, in the car — or many years later when someone introduced you to his music.

For some fans, it might have been “Heartbreak Hotel.” For others, “Love Me Tender,” “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock” or “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

But there's something special about that very first Elvis song.

You may forget hundreds of songs you've heard throughout your life, but sometimes the one that introduced you to Elvis stays attached to a particular place, person and moment forever.

“Wow… so very, very handsome. Elvis simply takes your breath away.”

Some photographs of Elvis Presley make you understand immediately why millions of fans fell in love with him.

The dark hair. Those beautiful blue eyes. The famous smile. But photographs also captured something harder to describe — that unmistakable Elvis charisma.

He could look shy and gentle in one picture, playful in the next, and then suddenly give the camera a look that could make hearts race.

And for a true Elvis fan, those feelings don't disappear with age.

You may have discovered him at 10, 15 or 20 years old. Decades can pass, but then you see that face or hear that voice again…and there it is.

In 1971, Elvis released “I’m Leavin’” — and even today, there is something strangely haunting about it.

This wasn't the explosive Elvis of “Jailhouse Rock,” nor the triumphant figure of the ’68 Comeback Special. “I’m Leavin’” was quieter, darker and deeply emotional.

Elvis sings of leaving, loneliness and trying to break away from a relationship that has reached its end. His performance feels unusually vulnerable, almost as though we are listening to a private conversation rather than a commercial single.

Knowing what happened to Elvis only six years later can make the song feel even more poignant today.

But Elvis was not predicting his death. The song was written by Michael Jarrett and Sonny Charles, not by Elvis, and there is no evidence that he recorded it as a coded farewell or that he was planning his own death.

What Elvis did bring to it was something only he could provide:

the emotion.

Perhaps that's why, decades later, listeners can hear “I’m Leavin’” and feel as though Elvis is revealing something deeply personal, even though the words weren't his own.

Sometimes a great singer doesn't have to write a song to make us believe every word of it.

Elvis could simply sing it — and make it feel like his life.

As a loyal Elvis fan, if someone asked you, “Was Elvis Presley the most handsome man ever?” — what would you say?

For me, the answer would be easy:
YES. But it wasn't only his face.

Of course, Elvis had those beautiful blue eyes, dark hair, that famous smile and a look that could be sweet and shy one moment, then incredibly confident the next.

But what made him truly attractive was the whole package.

The voice. The humor. The Southern charm. The way he moved. The charisma that seemed to fill a room before he even sang a note.

Beauty is always a matter of personal taste, but to an Elvis fan, there was simply something about that man that nobody else could duplicate.

You could copy the hairstyle. You could wear the jumpsuit. You could learn the moves.

But you could never quite copy Elvis.

So if you ask me whether Elvis was the most handsome…
