Hanshi Judan Nakazato Minoru is among 16 senior karate instructors in Okinawa that have been nominated to receive the title of “Intangible Cultural Asset.” This designation as a living legend is given by the Japanese government due to one’s masterly of a traditional art along with their efforts to preserve it.

We wish Hanshi the best of luck with this nomination as he continues to follow the path set by his father, who was also designated as an “Intangible Cultural Asset.”

Remembering Chosin Chibana, the Last Warrior of Shuri, on the day of his passing in 1969. Chibana Sensei's contributions to martial arts, particularly Kobayashi-Ryu and the three Kihon kata, continue to inspire practitioners today. He played a significant role in teaching Hanshi Judan Shugoro Nakazato, the founder of our Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan association.

Every system has their own opinion as to how to do a proper Naihanchi Dachi - toes slightly in is used in our system, while others prefer Kiba Dachi or Shiko Dachi. These photos of Chibana Sensei demonstrate a change in stance over time, sparking curiosity about the evolution of his technique.

Which version of the stance is proper? The correct answer is “all of the above.”
