Pearl Pirate Track & Field/ Cross Country Boys XC- 25 State Championships Girls XC- 12 State Championships Boys Track & Field- 19 State Champion Girls Track & Field - 7 State Championships

The Pearl Track and Field/ Cross Country program is the high school team for Pearl High School located in Pearl, Mississippi. The team competes as a 6A school in indoor and outdoor track and field as well as cross country. Known as the Pirates, Pearl’s first cross country team was in 1973. The team holds its home meets at Woody Barnett Track and Field Complex. Chris Barnett and George Kersh are th

e current head coaches. The Pirates have won 49 MHSAA State Championships among cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field. Due to its rich heritage, the home of the Pirates is popularly known as TrackTown Mississippi. Woody Barnett, the head coach from 1978 to 2012, was inducted into the MHSAA Hall of Fame and won 43 State Championships during his tenure. The most notable Alumni of the program is George Kersh who was the High School National Record holder in the 800m run at 1:46 and professionally was ranked as high as number four in the World.
