On Friday night the Allen Eagles traveled to Prosper ISD stadium to take on the Prosper Eagles in a district matchup.

Allen Eagles
Brady Bricker had a career-high night for completions as he completed 22 of 34 passes for 269 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bricker connected with receivers Donnell Gee, who had 5 catches for 100 yards, Messiah Washington, who caught 4 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown, Caleb Smith, who had 7 catches for 49 yards and a touchdown, and Quinton House-Hammonds, whose 3 receptions netted him 21 yards.

Allen also moved the ball on the ground effectively as Amir McDowell rushed for 60 yards on 10 carries, and Micah Ellis rushed for 145 yards on 17 carries, including a 75-yard touchdown run.

Prosper Eagles
Quarterback Nathan TenBarge completed 10 of 19 passes for 187 yards and rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown. TenBarge connected through the air with Javan Henry 3 times for 87 yards and a touchdown, Lathan Latiolais 2 times for 24 yards and a touchdown, and Austin Hailey, who had a total of 49 yards on 3 receptions. Prosper’s ground game did the job when needed, Leo Anguiano rushed for 58 yards on 15 carries scoring once, and Josh Martinez rushed for 19 yards on 10 carries.

The game for Allen again came down to the final plays. With time left on the clock, Allen was driving as the Prosper defense came up with a big stop on a 4th down pass play. Allen had one more chance, but Prosper’s defensive line ended the night with a huge sack, sealing the game. Prosper edges out Allen 37-36.

Next week Allen will return home to play Little Elm in their final district game of the season as they prepare for the playoffs. Prosper will travel to McKinney ISD stadium to play their final district game against McKinney, who is coming off a big win against Denton Guyer.

Week 10 of Texas High School Football is here. I went to The Woodlands Highlanders vs The Willis Wildcats game. Initially, this game was scheduled for Thursday, but because of lightning, it was delayed to Saturday, October 28, 2023. Despite the delay, this was a fantastic game these two teams have the two best quarterbacks in the city. It was a powerful offensive showdown.

Woodland’s kickoff to Willis. Woodlands forced Willis to a three and out. Woodlands has possession of the ball. Woodlands had a tremendous 1st drive. Quarterback #7 Mabrey Matteur rushed in for the 1st touchdown of the game. Willis got the ball back, but surprisingly, the top quarterback in the nation, #2 DJ Lagway, threw an interception, giving Woodlands back possession.

However, not long after Willis’ cornerback #9 A’mauree Holmes causes a fumble, and #13 Carter Jenkins recovers it for The Wildkats. Willis finally got a great drive going, getting near the endzone, but Woodland’s defense held them to 4th down, and Willis kicked a field goal to get on the board. Willis got another fumble recovery, getting back possession of the ball, but couldn’t score again, getting a turnover on downs. The 1st quarter, they ended with a score of 7-3.

Willis got a turnover on downs, and on the 1st play, DJ takes the QB draw to the endzone for Willis’ 1st touchdown of the game. Woodlands had a great drive. Mabrey found wide receiver #2 Shane Walker for a reception touchdown. Willis receives the kickoff, lands at the 28-yard line, and on the 1st play again, DJ does another QB draw and rushes it in for a 72-yard touchdown. The Woodlands offense had another great drive getting to the 1-yard line, and Mabrey rushed it in himself for his 2nd rushing touchdown.

Willis, within a couple of plays, DJ connected to #7 Jermaine Bishop he evaded two tackles and ran on the edge of the sideline for a 66-yard touchdown. Willis got another fumble recovery on the kickoff, instantly getting the ball back, and on the 1st play, DJ, under pressure, AGAIN connects with Jermaine for another touchdown. Woodlands finally got back the ball, unfortunately, Mabrey got injured and will be out for the rest of the game. Backup quarterback #10 Patrick Miller will take over and, despite the last-minute change, play efficiently and get Woodlands close enough for a 49-yard field goal with 30 seconds left in the half. Willis, despite the lack of time, gets close enough to make a field goal and ends the half with a score of 32-24, with Willis leading.

Willis’s kickoff to Woodlands, they could not get anything going and had to punt it to Willis. Willis is consistent because DJ AGAIN connects with Jermaine for his 3rd touchdown of the game. Woodlands received the kickoff, and through runs plays, Woodlands’ running back Joseph Canola rushed in for a touchdown. Willis, on a long drive, DJ runs the ball on himself again for his 3rd rushing touchdown of the game. With under 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Woodlands receives the kickoff, and on 4th and 12, Patrick, on a last-ditch effort, connected to wide receiver #0 Quannell Farrakhan Jr for a 41-yard touchdown. The 3rd quarter ended with a score of 46-38.

Woodland’s defense stopped Willis, but just like clockwork, Willis caused another fumble and recovered it. DJ effortlessly threw a short hop pass for a 50-yard touchdown to #11 Jalen Mickens. Woodlands is not letting up. Patrick again connects to Quanell for a touchdown, staying neck and neck with Willis. With about 6 minutes left in the game, Willis got back possession with a failed onside kick they drained to clock to a little under two minutes, and running back #5 Terri Lawrence III rushed it for a 5-yard touchdown. Patrick proved himself as a quarterback within a minute, getting to the 1-yard line and passing to Quanell again for his 3rd touchdown of the game. With 38 seconds left in the game, Woodlands tried their best to get the onside kick for a chance to tie up the game, but could not get it. This ended the game with a final score of 60-52, with Willis coming out victorious during this dogfight.

Wow, what a football game! Both teams fought with everything they had. These two offenses are the best I have ever watched, and DJ is undoubtedly the #1 QB in the nation. DJ completed 31/36 passes for almost 400 yards, scoring 7 touchdowns, 4 in the air, and 3 on the ground. Shoutout to Woodlands backup quarterback Patrick Miller for stepping up and performing well in such an intense game. Patrick threw 3 touchdown passes that kept Woodlands in the game, but hopefully, we will see Mabrey back during the playoffs. This was the Woodland’s last regular season game they have a bye week right before playoffs, and Willis will host The Oak Ridge War Eagles in their last regular season game, and if they win, they will be 10-0 for the 1st time ever.

6AHouston Showdown: Summer Creek Bests C.E. King 33-12by Maxwell MilnerOctober 29
Week 10 of Texas High School Football is here and to start it off on Saturday, October 28th, 2023 The C.E King Panthers vs The Summer Creek Bulldogs. This will be a game between two great and underrated teams in Houston. I was excited to see how this game turned out.

C.E King
Honestly, C.E. King’s performance was not the best in this game. They have great playmakers like running back #3 Dionne Sims and wide receiver #0 Vincent Jones, but they did not get many chances to ball out thanks to Summer Creek’s defense. Quarterback #1 Darius Clark-James was getting punished and rushed the entire game. This resulted in Darius missing a lot of his targets and 2 interception throws. However, in the 1st quarter, Darius scored the only touchdown for C.E King the whole game.

When Darius did have opportunities to stay in the pocket and air the ball out he found senior wide receiver #17 Rae’G Dailey. Rae’G this game caught the most passes and gained the most yards out of all the wide receivers he was quick, elusive, and resilient. If Darius managed to spread the ball out more C.E. King could have played neck-to-neck with Summer Creek.

Summer Creek
Summer Creek on the other hand played an amazing game. Their run-heavy offense was successful due to #25 running back Lloyd “Babyface” Avant he had 24 carries for 180 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Lloyd was running all through King’s defense the whole night, but he wasn’t the only one to worry about. Whenever quarterback #2 Blake Thomas wasn’t passing the ball he was mobile and great at scrambling. Blake even found an opening to rush in for a touchdown run and with his two touchdown passes, he had three total touchdowns.

Even though Summer Creek is run-heavy the wide receivers were still shown love. Both senior #8 Kordell Rodgers and freshman #10 Tre Brown only got two passes each, but still both got one touchdown each. I’m curious about freshman receiver Tre and his future on Summer Creek’s roster.

Game Recap
The final score of the game was 33-12 with Summer Creek coming out on top. Next week is the last week of the regular season for Texas High School Football. Next week The C.E King Panthers will be hosting The West Brook Bruins and The Summer Creek Bulldogs will be traveling to The Atascocita Eagles since they’re neck and neck in the rankings that will make an interesting game.

On Friday night the Estacado Matadors traveled to Big Springs to play the Steers in a district matchup.

Estacado couldn’t go much through the air as DJ Johnson completed only 3 of 14 passes for 22 yards. Cedric Ross had 2 of those receptions for 4 yards, and James Bozeman had the other one for an 18-yard reception. As the Matadors struggled to move the ball through the air, they effectively moved the ball on the ground throughout the night.

Running back James Bozeman racked up 166 rushing yards on 11 carries scoring twice, Bobby Ross rushed for an even 100 yards on 14 carries scoring once, and Cedric Ross put up 71 yards on 3 touches scoring once. The Matadors defense made big plays all night, only allowing scores in the second and third quarters. The defense was led by Donivan Torrez and Delton Johnson, as both were flying around the field, combining for 19 total tackles.

Estacado takes down Big Springs 33-13.

Next week Estacado will return home to play their final district game against Lake View, who is coming off a bye week. Big Springs will also play their final district game next week as they travel to play Andrews, who is coming off a 28-14 loss to Brownwood.

On Friday night, the Coronado Mustangs faced their cross-town rival Monterey Plainsmen in district play.

Coronado Mustangs
Quarterback Isaiah Vazquez completed 7 of 16 passes for 68 yards, rushed for 53 yards, and scored a touchdown. Vazquez connected with Surreal Garrett 2 times for 28 yards, Kevonte Carr 1 time for 21 yards, and Dom Parrish and J.J. Willis, who each had a reception. Struggling to move the ball through the air, the Mustangs relied on the ground game as Demarion Finch rushed for 132 yards on 23 carries, and Davian Lopez rushed for 10 yards on 3 carries. The Mustangs defense played well as they held the Plainsmen scoreless up until the 4th quarter.

Monterey Plainsmen
Luke Arrington completed 3 of 8 passes for 29 yards connecting with receivers Kash Lewis on a 23-yard receiving touchdown, and Sebastian Alvarez, who had a 6-yard reception. As the passing game was not as strong as the Plainsmen wanted on Friday, they relied on running back Ja’Marcus Smith, who rushed for 144 yards on 25 carries, scoring the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter as the time ran out to give the Plainsmen the win.

Monterey wins 14-7.

Next week Monterey will travel to Amarillo to play their final district game at Amarillo Dick Bivins Stadium. The Coronado Mustangs will be at home at Lowery Stadium to play their final district game against Tascosa.
