Recently I overheard a person who said that they(the company) just didn't have enough $ in their budget for safety.
Granted safety is a cost however what you save in insurance premiums, workers comp, lost time, retraining, medical costs sure put a positive aspect to the need for safety. But there is so much more to look at beyond $$$.
if your injury/injuries result in hospitalization or transportation to the hospital and is reported to OSHA, you could get a visit from a OSHA inspector. During the inspection the inspector notices discrepanicies in your IIPP, Accident prevention plan, or negligence on behalf of your company that caused the accident guess what, the cost to abate the citations by hiring a lawyer either to negotiate a settlement with OSHA, or the injured party family (civil suit) no to mention the perception that your company is not a safe place to work will cost more than a safety professional would charge. Be careful the lack of a quality safety program can be on a slippery slope! "I'm just sayin"
