A win can feel like the highest high. A loss can feel like the lowest low. Anyone who competes knows that feeling.
Today is a rem no inder that the scale runs further in both directions than any scoreboard.
Memorial Day is not for everyone who wore the uniform. It is for the ones who did not come home.
Most of us don’t know someone who paid that price. But most of us know someone who served, and they almost certainly do.
It might be a parent or a grandparent. It might be the quiet veteran down the street whose flag is always up.
If you want to mark today in a way that means something, find one of them and ask: is there someone you remember today? Then ask them to tell you about that person, and listen.
