Sunday was a great day.
Last Sunday is a prime example of how things can be—if we do them right.
Mathew 16:18 (the verse on our jerseys) “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
Why is that important? Because it’s about foundation. The church is the beginning, and the home, and it MUST be built on solid foundation—otherwise it’s just temporary and will one day crumble. We here at On The Rock focus very heavily on these young men’s foundations. Their foundation in God, and their foundation in themselves to help be the best man they can be, and that is way more important than any AVG, OBP , ERA, or how many rings they have on their fingers.
Sunday started with reflecting and working on our own foundation as a team, and as men. Every foundation deserves a self inspection from time to time. Sometimes you catch things as they are minor before they become major. We took this as a great time to have a very deep, personal, and vulnerable conversation as players and coaches. Real men can have vulnerable conversations, and we can also stand for what we believe. Real men have confidence, courage, and strength, along with a strong shoulder and an open ear for those who need it. Being open and vulnerable is a sign on confidence and strength.
After we talked real life, shared some stories, and had some laughs—the boys moved and operated a little differently. They gelled in an awkward conversation, and it showed them
how to properly talk about hard things with the ones you care about. They learned one thing most young men need to know; you’re usually not alone in the tough ways you may feel in life. And sometimes it means everything that other people understand and also have your back.
Thank you if you read all of that. Have awkward conversations. Be open. Listen. Be a good teammate and brother. Hit dingers. Throw gas.
