the Eastern Shore with a focus on inclusive
Adaptive horseback riding, also known as therapeutic horseback riding, focuses on the development of horsemanship and horseback riding skills for people with a variety of abilities. The purpose of adaptive riding is to positively influence the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being of individuals with special needs. Adaptive riding lessons are taught by PATH certified therapeutic riding instructors. These instructors have extensive horse experience, as well as experience working with people with special needs. Instructors use their knowledge to adapt the tack or lesson plan to assist the client in achieving his or her specific goals. Adaptive horseback riding utilizes a variety of mounted and unmounted activities to accomplish the particular objectives of each client. Physically, riders can exhibit improvements in flexibility, posture, coordination, balance, and muscle strength. Adaptive riding lesson plans involve many exercises that can help develop sequencing, patterning, and motor planning skills. Clients can develop a sense of responsibility and independence while caring for their equine partners. Teamwork and social skills are developed as clients connect with others over a shared activity and interest. In addition to these benefits, clients can find an enhanced quality of life and life-long enjoyment in a fun outdoor sport. The runners, Eastern Shore Running Club who did the timing, the cheerleaders, the parking attendants, the announcer (Ms Sandy), the set up crew and take down crew.

Responding to community needs, 4STEPS develops programs for those who benefit from exceptional programming, innovative curricula and sustainable business practices. As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, 4STEPS maintains its philanthropy by keeping program fees affordable and offering scholarships by writing grants and soliciting donations to offset the cost for 4STEPS’ participants.

Founded on core values of integrity, passion and efficacy, 4STEPS continues to uphold these beliefs. The cornerstone of our organization is transformation, for the individual, family, and community.

Core Values and Beliefs:
• We are committed to a philosophy of inclusion in all our affairs and fostering activities that add to the richness of our social fabric.
• We are committed to providing a nurturing, compassionate, and a peaceful learning environment, which allows each individual to reach his or her greatest potential.
• We hold a deep respect for humanity, animal kind, and the natural world and are committed to promoting our connectivity.
• We believe in the gift of the horse to heal, teach, empower and inspire.
• We are committed to providing effective therapeutic services and excellence in all our equestrian programming.

• We are committed to providing charitable and affordable access to our services through scholarships, fellowship, and researching grant opportunities.
• We are committed to exploring, collaborating, and seeking counsel in the sustainability of our mission, organization, and industry.
• We are committed to an attitude of openness, teamwork and discovery in our work, while respecting a diversity of living and learning styles.
