DDC Spring Schooling Show – Takeaways

This weekend was everything a horse show should be—real, a little gritty, and full of the moments that remind you why we do this.
Saturday asked the hard questions… rain, cold, and the kind of weather that makes you earn every ride.
Sunday gave us the reward—blue skies, sunshine, and horses that finally felt like they could exhale.
And in between… growth.
✨ Gaston stepped into the ring for his first show with us and showed up like he belonged there all along. That first outing together matters—it’s where the partnership starts to take shape.
✨ Camille and Elle had their first show together, and you could see the pieces beginning to click. Not perfect—and exactly right. The start of a conversation, not the end of it.
✨ Tessa and Lulu put in the kind of work that really counts—building confidence in English tack while continuing to refine their skills in Western. Different feel, same partnership learning to adjust and trust.
✨ Tim and Tresor continue to hone Level 1 Test 4—not just riding it, but understanding it. That’s where the real progress lives.
✨ And me and Miss Mead… knocking the dust off. Sometimes it’s not about brilliance—it’s about showing up and finding your way back to feel.
That’s the truth of a schooling show: • It’s not about perfection
• It’s about progress
• It’s about showing up when it’s uncomfortable
• And staying in the conversation with your horse anyway

Proud doesn’t quite cover it… but it’s a start.

Annie & Heather — Chasing the Demons Away

Some rides aren’t about ribbons.
Some rides aren’t even about getting it right.

Some rides are about showing up anyway.

About swinging a leg over when your mind is loud, your confidence is quiet, and the last ride is still sitting a little too close under your skin.

That’s what this was.

Annie didn’t ask for perfection.
She didn’t demand a frame or a picture.
She just asked, “Are you with me?”

And today… Heather said yes.

Step by step.
Stride by stride.
Breath by breath.

The neck got longer.
The back started to swing.
The conversation came back.

Not forced.
Not held together.
But rebuilt.

This is what it looks like to chase the demons away—
not by fighting them,
but by riding forward anyway.

This is the work that makes a coach stand a little taller.

Candy & Cowboy — What a Weekend ✨

There are horse shows where you chase scores…
and then there are shows where the work shows up.

This one was the latter.

Candy and Cowboy stepped into the arena and quietly did their job—no drama, no resistance, just honest, correct work. The kind that comes from time, consistency, and a horse that understands his job and a rider who listens.

Multiple solid scores and an 8.0 across collective marks…
but more importantly—
a comment that means everything:

“Very correctly trained. Well presented.”

That’s the goal.
Not just ribbons. Not just numbers.
But a horse that is developed correctly, ridden thoughtfully, and presented in a way that reflects the process behind the scenes.

Cowboy showed up soft, steady, and present.
Candy rode with intention and feel.
And together—they stayed in the conversation.

Proud doesn’t quite cover it.

This is what it looks like when the pieces come together.
This is why we do the work.
