REINSTATEMENT OF STAY AT HOME ORDER POSSIBLE, IF NEW CASE NUMBERS CONTINUE TO RISE: A Statement from the Colorado River Indian Tribal Council
The season of fall holds special meaning to tribal members. In our respective cultures, itās the time of year we practice age-old traditions related to harvest, singing, dancing. As a community in the past, we all celebrated, gathered, and attended meals together. As we all know, this has changed. This year is significantly different, and rightly so because the Coronavirus is not under control; it is not going away.
The Colorado River Indian Tribal Council is set to react to the recent climbing number of New Coronavirus infection cases on the reservation this month by reimposing CRITās Resolution 54-20 Stay At Home Order- See clause below.
Last week we reached 6% with the additional cases. A lockdown to slow the fast-rising cases are not what anyone wants, but if the numbers donāt slow drastically, the reality is more restrictions.
As leaders in this community and being family members, friends, and co-workers to you all, we will continue to take aggressive action to protect our employees and our residentsā well-being and safety. The option to not doing so is fatal.
A few days ago, a community elder quietly turned 96 years old; she is a historical and cultural knowledge keeper; her value is unmeasurable. On this same day, we announced 14 New Coronavirus cases. Then days later another 9 new additional Coronavirus cases. This disease does not discriminate, everyone is at risk, and it is relentless, so we must be too. We must recommit ourselves to the hard work of staying safe and healthy, and we need to do it today.
Although efforts to downplay the virus can be seen everywhere, tribal members and residents of the reservation must make the personal choice to do what it takes to stay virus-free and continue following the preventative rules. We know what it takes to stop this disease through known practices. Weāve done it before, and we can do it again.
RECOMMIT NOW TO PREVENTION, OUR FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE: HAND WASHING, SANITIZING, FACE MASK WEARING, NOT GATHERING, AND SOCIAL DISTANCING.
We will continue to monitor the evolving situation closely as we take our responsibility to support and protect our tribal members and residents very seriously.
Our thoughts are with each of you, and we hope this message finds you, your family, and your friends in good health.
Respectfully,
The Colorado River Indian Tribal Council
