With a heavy heart, I have to announce this year’s Anniversary Seminar scheduled for the 3rd weekend in July at the Moose Jaw Resort will be canceled.
This martial arts seminar has been held for over 50 years in northern Wisconsin. Those of you who have been around for a while know that we have held this seminar - rain or shine, (mostly shine). Next year we will start anew!
The Anniversary Seminar was started by Master William H. Van Auken all those years ago to celebrate the martial arts and give back to others by sharing our knowledge. Since Master Van Auken’s death in 2008, it has become a celebration of his life and the martial arts community that the North Central Instructors Black Belt Federation (NCIBBF) represents.
Master Van Auken started the NCIBBF almost 60 years ago. He believed that martial artists had much more in common than not, so he set out to create a union of practitioners that has grown to include martial artists representing many different styles from all over the Midwest (and at times much farther).
Since 2008, Sigung William Penca has had the NCIBBF helm and has continued the legacy of Master Van Auken. A few days ago we held our annual meeting, and I would like to pass on a few thoughts from that meeting. First, the NCIBBF is alive and well, and we still have work to do. The William H. Van Auken Scholarship will be awarded early next month. This $1,000.00 scholarship is given to a martial artist who is pursuing higher education. Your dues and donations help support this scholarship, so please keep up your membership.
The other thought I would like to pass along is this. The world has a few challenges of its own right now. Life is different for many of us. This too shall pass! Martial artists have a very long history of coming through hard times stronger. We, this generation of martial artists, are no different. We, too, will come through this stronger. Continue to train with passion, keep your skills sharp, and remember that the true training hall is in your mind, not someplace you go to. You are already there.
Peace and live well.
