First official trip of the 2024 season was a success. These first time fly anglers came with a goal of learning new techniques to catch Northwoods fish. After starting off with some casting and hookset practice on bluegill, we ventured to the river and they were able to make the most of their opportunities in high water to land a couple smallies and a nice pike! Fun but chilly morning on the water!

Musky season 2024 is off to a great start. This fish followed up from a log jam along the bank in shallow water, each strip of the fly was met with a burst of speed from this pretty fish. During each pause and turn of the fly the fish inched closer and closer... finally, two quick strips and a long dramatic pause was too much to resist as the Musky darted toward and inhaled the orange and white fly. After a scrappy battle with the 10 wt, the fish was in hand.

This mornings outing was outstanding! A 40", a 30", and another mini musky. More bonus smallies, and pike as well! 10 musky on the board and counting.

A couple nice smallmouth, another small musky and a few missed opportunities on bigger guys made for a pretty fun day on the water!

A beautiful sunrise with fog on the water and a crisp chill in the air after the front moved through yesterday! Two small musky, a few pike, and a nice bonus smallmouth made for a fantastic morning on the water!

After a rough boatside loss yesterday, the fishing today was insane! 3 musky to the net and one other follow to the boat, 27", 31", and 33". The biggest fish ate on a deep dive during the figure 8 after a hot follow. Musky are absolutely gorgeous fish and I love the takes! A bonus smallmouth ate a big musky fly too!

It's been an awesome multi species weekend in the Northwoods of WI. Saturday was big crappies and largemouth bass, Sunday was stripping streamers for pike, and today we got into huge smallies on top water and streamers! Spring fishing has been amazing so far!

Largemouth bass on poppers? Yes, please!! The bass fishing was on fire this morning and a few nice bluegill joined too! Water Temps were in the mid-50s, and the overcast day was perfect for surface eats.

A small break from fishing this morning to tag out on my first Northwoods gobbler! A short and sweet hunt that was an hour of non-stop gobbling as this bird worked its way toward me. Love living in the woods of WI.

Happy opening weekend for fishing! I was able to get out and explore with the fly rod and found some awesome spots for walleye and perch! The puppies got introduced to the new boat (only one fall in incident). I call the first weekend a success! Tight lines to everybody!

Finally, I got the fly rod out for a quick scouting mission and to test some new bass bugs. Water Temps were still cold (40 degrees), and high water made accessibility tough, but it was great to get out and enjoy the warm spell before this weekends cold front!
